Senior Electrical Engineer – Data Center Design

Location: Remote

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: $200,000 – $300,000 (DOE)

Benefits: Full Benefits Package

Our client is a rapidly growing AI infrastructure company designing next-generation GPU data centers for high-density compute workloads. The organization partners with leading technology companies and public-sector customers and is scaling its global data center platform.

They are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to take a leading role in the design and technical oversight of data center electrical systems. This position focuses on upfront engineering, design review, and technical decision-making for new builds and major upgrades, with ownership of electrical architecture rather than day-to-day site operations.

The role suits an engineer who enjoys working from first principles, setting standards, reviewing complex designs, and shaping how large-scale infrastructure is built.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design review of electrical systems for new data center developments, including power distribution architectures and equipment selection
  • Review and approve electrical equipment submittals to ensure alignment with design intent, performance targets, and reliability requirements
  • Own the electrical design of capacity upgrades and efficiency-driven retrofit projects
  • Develop and maintain electrical design standards, guidelines, and best practices across the data center portfolio
  • Interface with internal data center design, hardware, controls, and EHS teams to ensure consistency and technical alignment
  • Provide technical guidance to external design consultants and engineering partners
  • Support multiple concurrent projects across different regions, contributing to early-stage planning and design decisions
  • Conduct engineering site audits focused on design compliance and technical risk identification

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals and the ability to evaluate complex designs under ambiguity
  • Experience delivering engineered solutions within large-scale or mission-critical environments
  • Background working with engineering consultancies and managing technical deliverables
  • Comfortable acting as a design authority and providing clear technical direction
  • Able to work effectively in a remote-first role with occasional site engagement as needed

Preferred Experience

  • Direct experience designing or reviewing electrical systems for mission-critical facilities, particularly data centers
  • Experience acting as an owner’s engineer or internal design authority
  • Strong capability reading, interpreting, and reviewing construction drawings, specifications, and technical submittals
  • Broad understanding of data center electrical infrastructure, including utility interconnections, UPS systems, generators, switchgear, and PDUs
  • Familiarity with EPMS, SCADA, and BMS architectures from a design perspective

Compensation \& Benefits

  • Competitive total compensation including base salary and equity
  • Retirement or pension plan aligned with local norms
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Generous PTO policy
