Job Description
Overview
If you are energized by shaping the future of AI-powered experiences and have the craft and systems thinking to operate at scale, we want to hear from you.
The Microsoft AI Design \& Research team is building the next generation of intelligent web experiences to enable the future of browsing, search and content. We design cohesive, scalable, and human-centered systems that reach billions of people. This is not incremental UX work. This is foundational experience design in an AI-first world.
We’re looking for a Product Designer who is eager to deepen their systems thinking, cares deeply about visual and interaction craft, and ready to contribute to high‑impact product areas. You’re curious about emerging AI workflows and comfortable prototyping beyond static mocks. You bring strong fundamentals, a growth mindset, and a desire to collaborate closely with other designers, PMs, and engineers.
This is a hybrid role, in office 4 days a week in Mountain View, CA; Redmond, WA; or New York City.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Contribute to end‑to‑end experience design across complex product areas, from early exploration to polished execution
- Translate AI capabilities into intuitive, trustworthy, human‑centered interactions
- Prototype across fidelity levels, including interactive and motion‑based explorations
- Support system‑level thinking and help evolve design systems for coherence and scalability
- Help define experience patterns and principles that can be adopted across teams
- Collaborate closely with product and engineering partners to clarify requirements, explore tradeoffs, and deliver cohesive experiences
- Strengthen visual craft, interaction detail, and micro‑interactions through hands‑on design work
- Navigate ambiguity with guidance, contributing to v1 experiences and iterative experimentation
- Participate in cross‑team critiques and alignment efforts to raise quality across product pillars
- Champion accessibility, inclusive design, and usability in all design decisions
Qualifications
Qualifications Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).
Preferred Qualifications
- 2–4 years of experience designing consumer or enterprise products
- Experience contributing to ambiguous or early‑stage product work
- Familiarity with design systems and scalable interaction patterns
- Proficient visual and interaction fundamentals, with interest in motion and prototyping
- Curiosity and emerging fluency with modern AI tools and workflows
- Willingness to explore coded prototypes or adjacent technical tools with support
- Ability to communicate design rationale clearly and collaborate across disciplines
- Proficient storytelling skills and ability to present work effectively
- Portfolio demonstrating process, craft, and problem‑solving (include link and password if applicable)
