MATERIAL HANDLING SYSTEMS DESIGNER (CONVEYOR \& SORTATION)

Employment Type: Contract (Initial) → Full-Time (Optional)

Work Classification: Remote \+ Field Coordination

1\. POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Systems Designer is responsible for developing conveyor and sortation system layouts, defining equipment requirements, and supporting system proposals.

This role focuses on concept development, layout planning, and system definition prior to equipment procurement.

2\. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

2\.1 System Layout Development

  • Create 2D and/or 3D layouts of conveyor systems
  • Define:
  • Product flow
  • Equipment placement
  • Merge and divert locations
  • Optimize layouts for:
  • Throughput
  • Space utilization
  • Operational efficiency

2\.2 Equipment Specification

  • Define system components including:
  • Conveyor types
  • Sortation methods
  • System configurations
  • Develop equipment schedules and design assumptions

2\.3 Concept \& Proposal Development

  • Translate field requirements into:
  • Concept layouts
  • Client-facing visuals
  • Support scope definition and solution development

2\.4 Integration Awareness

  • Coordinate with:
  • Electrical requirements
  • Controls interfaces
  • Installation sequencing

2\.5 Manufacturer Coordination

  • Support coordination with manufacturers such as:
  • Interroll
  • Itoh Denki
  • Intralox

3\. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 3 years experience in:
  • Conveyor systems
  • Material handling systems
  • Experience with:
  • Layout design
  • System flow planning
  • Proficiency in:
  • AutoCAD

4\. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with:
  • Distribution or fulfillment systems
  • Conveyor system design or layout roles
  • Familiarity with:
  • Sortation methods
  • Throughput considerations

5\. SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

  • AutoCAD (Required)
  • SolidWorks or Inventor (Preferred)
  • SketchUp (Acceptable for conceptual work)

6\. LICENSING \& REQUIREMENTS

Required:

  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred:

  • Autodesk Certification

7\. COMPENSATION

Contract :

  • $50 – $75 per hour

Performance Incentive:

  • 0\.5% – 1\.0% of awarded project value (design-supported projects only)

8\. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

  • Deliver accurate and practical system layouts
  • Support development of clear and buildable solutions
  • Maintain organized design documentation

Pay: $55\.00 - $65\.00 per hour
