Android Software Engineer

About the role
We’re hiring an Android Software Engineer to build and maintain our Android applications.
You’ll work with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and other developers to ship features, improve performance, and resolve issues across supported Android devices and operating system versions.
What you’ll do
- Design, build, test, and maintain Android applications.
- Develop features using Kotlin and/or Java.
- Integrate Android applications with REST APIs and backend services.
- Work with product managers and designers from specification through release.
- Review code and contribute to engineering standards.
- Investigate crashes, bugs, and performance issues.
- Improve application performance and responsiveness across supported devices and Android versions.
- Evaluate libraries, frameworks, and Android tooling when they can improve the product or development process.
- Contribute to sprint planning, stand-ups, technical discussions, and retrospectives.
What we’re looking for
- Professional experience developing Android applications.
- Experience with Kotlin and/or Java.
- Working knowledge of the Android SDK and Android application architecture.
- Experience integrating REST APIs and backend services.
- Experience using Git.
- Experience debugging applications and investigating performance issues.
- Experience working in an Agile development process.
- Ability to explain technical decisions and work with engineering, product, and design colleagues.
Nice to have
- Experience designing mobile interfaces for users with different accessibility needs.
- Experience with automated Android testing.
- Experience publishing and maintaining applications through Google Play.
- Experience with modern Android technologies such as Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Flow, Room, or dependency-injection frameworks.
What a typical week may include
You might spend your time:
- Reviewing priorities and blockers with the engineering team.
- Building and testing features planned for the current sprint.
- Working with designers and product managers on upcoming functionality.
- Reviewing pull requests and discussing technical decisions with other engineers.
- Investigating production issues, crashes, or performance regressions.
- Evaluating Android tools or libraries that could reduce development or maintenance work.
