About The Role
The HR Generalist plays a key role in supporting employees and leaders across the full employee lifecycle while helping the organization operate compliantly, thoughtfully, and at scale. This role partners closely with employees and managers to deliver a positive employee experience, from onboarding to development to offboarding, while ensuring policies, processes, and practices are clear, consistent, and aligned with ThredUp values.
The HR Generalist serves as a trusted resource for day-to-day people's questions, supports employee relations with sound judgment and care, and contributes to people initiatives that strengthen culture, engagement, and operational effectiveness.
What You’ll Do
Support Employees \& Leaders
- Serve as a go-to resource for employees and managers with questions related to policies, benefits, leaves of absence, and people programs
- Partner with managers to navigate employee relations matters with consistency, empathy, and sound judgment
- Support workplace investigations, disciplinary processes, and terminations in alignment with company policies and employment laws
- Help resolve employee concerns in a way that fosters trust and supports a respectful, inclusive work environment
People Operations \& Compliance
- Administer policies, procedures, and programs related to compensation, benefits, leave, performance management, and training
- Maintain accurate employee records and documentation within all applicable systems
- Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Assist with audits, reporting, and documentation as needed
Employee Development
- Assist with onboarding and offboarding to ensure a smooth, welcoming employee experience
- Support performance conversations, feedback cycles, and development planning
- Contribute to employee recognition, engagement, and learning initiatives
Projects \& Continuous Improvement
- Participate in People team projects that improve efficiency, clarity, and the employee experience
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and enhance how the People Team services employees and leaders
- Stay current on HR best practices, employment law updates, and evolving people operations tools
- Serves as the People Team representative in safety, employee feedback sessions, and engagement team projects
Skills \& Abilities
- Ability to understand and align to business goals, operating as both a business advocate and a trusted people parter
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust across all levels of the organization
- Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive employee matters
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
- Proficiency with G Suite, Workday, and ADP, and the ability to quickly learn HRIS and people systems preferred
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
Education \& Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in an HR Generalist, People Operations, or similar role
