Job Description

Overview

The senior counselor (SC) is an uncommonly hardworking, resourceful individual who's passionate about helping BRYC's Senior Fellows (12th-graders) pursue best-fit post-secondary pathways. Strong candidates have experience guiding students and families through strategic intentional plans, including college admissions, trade school applications, apprenticeship programs, military service opportunities, gap year planning, workforce entry, and financial aid processes. The SC also supports students through transition and matriculation into their chosen pathways.

Above all, the SC understands that students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds face disproportionate barriers in accessing quality postsecondary opportunities, and therefore they are relentless in breaking these barriers so BRYC Fellows can maximize their potential through diverse educational and career pathways that align with their individual goals, interests, and circumstances.

Duties

  • Plan \& facilitate electric evening programs – Three evenings per week, from 4:30-7:30pm, the SC will facilitate Senior Workshop, a program in which BRYC’s seniors complete postsecondary process work alongside designated mentors. The SC will manage a cohort of \~50 seniors, which includes making individualized postsecondary plans and recommendations.
  • Provide robust support outside of program – The SC will closely monitor the progress of Fellows in their cohort, identifying and responding effectively to Fellows’ academic and socioemotional needs, and communicating proactively with guardians, mentors, and BRYC team members.
  • Build strong senior class culture – The SC will be the heartbeat of our Senior Fellow community, building connections with Fellows, mentors, and guardians to foster a culture in which there is shared pride and purpose around the college process and BRYC experience as a whole.
  • Coordinate special initiatives – The SC will help plan and lead special initiatives like college tours, college information panels, and college process-specific events (e.g., FAFSA night).
