Our Mt. Vernon Club is looking for an Education/STEM Coordinator who will plan, develop, and implement programs for youth ages 6-18\. This position will begin with the 2026 Summer Enrichment Program.
Hours: Monday-Friday 2:30pm - 6:00pm during the school year
Summer program is Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm (up to 40 hours per week)
(2026 Summer Program begins June 8 and ends July 17; required, paid training for all staff June 1 \& 2 from 9am-4pm in Mobile)
This location has been a summer-only site for the last several years, but will be a year-round site starting with the 2026-2027 school year!
Pay Rate: $15/hour

The Education/STEM Coordinator is responsible for managing the academic success programs at a specific Club location, including implementing the science, technology, engineering and mathematics(STEM) program that increases technology skills for all Club members while assisting those with the interest and aptitude to prepare for future careers in STEM fields. Our goal is to be the premier agency for youth who have an interest in STEM programs.
TYPES OF ACADEMIC PROGRAMS:
Academic tutoring \& homework assistance; Life Skills Development; Financial Literacy; Internet Safety; Nutrition Education; Embracing Inclusion; Bully Prevention
TYPES OF STEM PROGRAMS:
Digital Photography; 3D Printing; Scratch Game Development; Coding; Robotics; Science Experiments; Claymation; Basic Engineering
Responsibilities include:
- Program development: Planning and coordinating programs for youth, such as mentorship, tutoring, and summer day camp.
- Program implementation: Ensuring that activities are age-appropriate, fun, and safe.
- Curriculum development: Designing age-appropriate educational curriculum.
- Technology: provide basic computer maintenance, including file management, trouble-shooting and technical support to clubhouse youth and mentors.
- STEM: facilitate science and engineering activities/classes planned for Club members.
- Partnerships: Facilitating partnerships with other organizations.
- Record keeping: Maintaining and updating records of programs, implementation, and outcomes.
- Goal setting: Helping members set academic goals.
- Program evaluation: Evaluating program to ensure expected outcomes are being met.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Recruiting and retaining kids for programs
- Meeting attendance and completion goals
- Supporting the Branch Director with day-to-day program and club oversight
- Collaborating with school staff and parents
- Creating a positive work atmosphere
- Supporting BGC events, initiatives, and general organizational needs
FUNDAMENTAL RELATIONSHIPS
Maintains close daily contact with Club staff, Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information. Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents, and others to assist in resolving problems/issues.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Passion for working with youth: Genuine enthusiasm for engaging and supporting young people in a recreational setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to interact effectively with children and build rapport.
- Leadership abilities: Confidence to guide and manage group activities.
- Organizational skills: Capability to plan, manage, and execute activities efficiently.
- Knowledge of recreational games and activities: Familiarity with various games and ability to teach rules and strategies.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to relate with children in a Boys \& Girls Club environment.
- Ability to deal with the public and community organizations.
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
- Preferable to be authorized to drive Club van on occasion (requires an acceptable driving record and min. age 25, to meet our insurance criteria).
EDUCATION and WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Experience: 1-2 years related work experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Visual: Normal acuity required daily for making color distinction, depth of sight, preparing/analyzing figures, computer use, and written records 8\+ hours
Communication: Able to express thoughts and ideas in an accurate and understandable manner through verbal and written format with internal and external contacts 8 hours per day
Movement: Ability to maneuver within work site 6-8 hours per day
Lifting/Pulling/Pushing/Carrying: Able to comfortably move and manipulate up to 20 lbs of weight up to 4-6 hours per day
All candidates will be required to complete a background check, drug screen, TB test \& basic physical,
fingerprinting, and review by applicable state DHR Child Abuse/Neglect divisions.
There is no charge to the candidate.
