Job Description

Embedded Software Engineer — Radar Systems

Technovative Applications is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to join our team of developers building complex radar systems for U.S. military applications. The ideal candidate is an expert in C/C\+\+ with deep Linux systems experience, including Linux device driver development, and a strong track record of optimizing code for real-time, resource-constrained embedded hardware. This role works closely with a multi-disciplinary team spanning RF, FPGA, and systems engineering.

TA develops and produces radar interferometers, radar subsystems, fire control systems, and miniaturized communications transceivers for U.S. military applications. Our interferometers rely on embedded real-time computers performing radar control, signal processing, and data processing under hard timing constraints. Separate systems implement graphical user interfaces and near-real-time data reduction. The software team owns design, coding, implementation, and testing across this full stack.

This is an onsite position, requiring in-office presence five days per week.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Optimize C/C\+\+ code for performance, memory footprint, and deterministic real-time behavior on embedded, resource-constrained hardware
  • Develop and optimize high-level algorithms for signal processing, data reduction, and control logic, with attention to real-time performance and deterministic timing
  • Design and implement multi-threaded, parallelized software for real-time data processing pipelines
  • Develop, debug, and maintain Linux device drivers supporting custom hardware interfaces
  • Design, implement, and test embedded software running under RTOS (or bare-metal) on real-time radar control and signal-processing systems
  • Collaborate directly with RF, FPGA, and systems engineers to define software requirements against hardware capabilities and timing budgets
  • Participate in the full Software Development Life Cycle: requirements, design, implementation, unit/integration testing, and field validation
  • Debug and resolve complex, timing-sensitive issues at the hardware/software boundary (interrupt handling, DMA, real-time scheduling)

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of experience directly related to embedded software development
  • Expert-level C/C\+\+
  • Strong Linux systems experience, including Linux device driver development
  • Demonstrated experience optimizing code for performance in embedded/real-time environments
  • U.S. citizenship, with ability to obtain a Secret-level security clearance
  • Willingness and ability to work onsite five days per week

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with RTOS (e.g., VxWorks, QNX, FreeRTOS, or Linux with PREEMPT_RT)
  • Strong background in mathematics, with experience designing and implementing signal processing or control algorithms
  • Experience with multi-threaded, parallelized software for real-time systems
  • Hands-on experience debugging at the hardware/software boundary (DMA, interrupts, memory-mapped I/O)
  • Experience in both Linux and Windows development environments
  • Familiarity with GUI development (secondary to core embedded/algorithm work)
  • Active Secret-level clearance already in place

Education and Clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent discipline
  • U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain a Secret-level security clearance (active clearance a plus, not required)
