In this hands-on embedded development role, you will design, code, model, and validate embedded control software governing vehicle control units, electrification systems, and implement interfaces for commercial mowers and utility vehicles. Beyond bench testing, you will test and tune control algorithms directly on production turf machinery across on-site proving grounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Embedded Software \& Controls Development:

Design, develop, and code real-time embedded software and control algorithms using

C/C\+\+ and MATLAB / Simulink (Model-Based Design)

for vehicle electronics and control units.

  • System Integration \& Bus Protocols:

Implement, configure, and troubleshoot vehicle communication protocols including

CAN bus (J1939), LIN, and diagnostic interfaces

.

  • Verification \& Validation:

Execute Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) and bench-level testing, leveraging oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and CAN analysis tools (e.g., Vector CANoe/CANalyzer) to isolate software and hardware faults.

  • On-Vehicle Proving Grounds Testing:

Operate commercial mowers, golf utility equipment, and John Deere Gators on facility proving grounds to validate control system performance, sensor feedback, and functional safety in real-world operating conditions.

  • Requirements \& Technical Documentation:

Author, maintain, and review technical software specifications, system requirements, architecture documentation, and test plans.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Partner closely with electrical systems engineers, mechanical design teams, safety leads, and software validation teams within an Agile product development framework.

  • Experience:

2 to 5\+ years of practical experience developing embedded software for real-time electronic controllers and vehicle systems.

  • Core Programming \& Modeling:

Proven expertise coding in

Embedded C/C\+\+

and developing control algorithms using

MATLAB \& Simulink

.

  • Vehicle Communication:

Hands-on experience with

CAN (J1939)

, electronic control units (ECUs), and vehicle telemetry tools.

  • Lab Instrumentation \& Debugging:

Experience debugging hardware/software integration issues using digital oscilloscopes, multimeters, and CAN bus analyzers.

  • Physical \& Safety Readiness:

Ability to wear metatarsal boots on Day 1 and operate turf machinery/Gators on testing grounds.

  • Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.

Stand-Out Skills (Preferred):

  • Prior embedded software experience with commercial turf machinery, agricultural equipment, off-highway vehicles, or automotive chassis systems.
