Job Purpose
Provides Mechanical Engineering expertise within the plant to which he is assigned and supports reliable plant
maintenance in line with safety requirements, business objectives and a continuous improvement program.
Key Accountabilities
- Provides Mechanical Engineer technical expertise within the plant to which he is assigned.
- Performs supervisory functions and exercises financial authority at the level established by Management.
- Supports the development and implementation of reliability concepts at mechanical maintenance.
- Supports the development and implementation of mechanical maintenance procedures.
- Leads the root cause analysis of repeated or major failures to ensure continuous improvement.
- Prepares detailed design packages and bid packages for approved mechanical improvements.
- Coordinates Mechanical engineering activities with in-house and contract engineering resources.
- Ensures all relevant engineering standards and procedures are followed during plant repairs and alterations by in-house and contract resources.
- Troubleshoots mechanical problems in the plant and proposes solutions.
- Meets regularly as a part of the maintenance and production team to coordinate activities and priorities.
- Supports the development of maintenance KPI’s to ensure responsiveness to customer needs and to promote continuous improvement.
- Coaches and develop team members to promote individual growth and promote internal succession.
- Provides input to the annual mechanical maintenance budget for each plant in conjunction with all concerned parties including the relevant plant manager.
- Provides input to the capital planning budget taking into account improvement opportunities and end of life replacement requirements.
- Identifies critical spare parts and specialized tools and ensures their availability in compliance with the reliability centered maintenance program.
- Supports the development of specifications and supplier lists for spare parts to enable ordering/reordering.
- Participates in Emergency Response and Command activities as required.
- Participates in (and sometimes leads) safety audits in the plants.
- Carries out other similar or related duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
