Job Description
Engineering Manager
TypeScript \| Node.js \| React \| AWS \| AI-assisted engineering
Central London, hybrid \| £100,000–£110,000 \+ 15% bonus
An established global B2B software company is building a new engineering team in London to deliver new products, modernise existing platforms and embed AI across both its customer experience and engineering workflows.
They are looking for an Engineering Manager who can combine strong people leadership with technical depth to guide architecture, engineering standards and delivery. This is not a hands-off management role.
You will lead an initial team of around four to five engineers, with a split of approximately 60% leadership and 40% technical involvement across architecture, code reviews, technical decisions and production problem-solving.
- Building, hiring and leading a new London-based engineering team.
- Coaching engineers and creating a supportive, accountable culture.
- Working with Product to shape priorities, requirements and delivery plans.
- Guiding architecture and technical design across new and existing products.
- Acting as the main technical escalation point for the team.
- Improving testing, CI/CD, observability, resilience and engineering practices.
- Introducing enough process to create clarity and pace without unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Helping the team adopt AI-assisted development tools responsibly and effectively.
- Contributing to new AI-enabled products and wider platform modernisation.
What they’re looking for
- Several years managing and developing engineers.
- A strong previous background as a Senior, Lead or Staff-level engineer.
- Strong TypeScript and Node.js experience.
- Exposure to React and modern full-stack product development.
- Experience with APIs, microservices or distributed systems.
- Good knowledge of AWS and cloud-native architecture.
- Experience using tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or GitHub Copilot.
They are particularly interested in people who have worked in startup, scale-up or fast-moving product environments, although strong candidates from larger organisations will also be considered.
You will have the chance to build a team rather than inherit a fixed structure, with real influence over hiring, culture, architecture and delivery.
The business offers the stability and investment of a successful international software company, while the new London team will have significant autonomy and the opportunity to shape how AI is used across the engineering lifecycle.
