Job Description
Exploration Geologist
We are supporting a well-established mining operation in the western United States that is looking to appoint an Exploration Geologist to support the growth of its copper, silver, and gold assets. This role will focus on identifying and advancing mineral resource opportunities through target generation, drill program management, and geological modeling.
The position offers the opportunity to play a key role in expanding existing resources and discovering new mineralized zones while working closely with geology, engineering, and operational teams.
Key Responsibilities
Target Generation \& Geological Interpretation
- Develop and refine exploration targets based on structural geology, alteration patterns, lithology, and mineralization controls
- Interpret geological mapping, geochemical surveys, and geophysical datasets
- Identify extensions of known mineralization and new prospective zones
- Contribute to exploration models for copper and associated mineral systems
Drill Program Planning \& Oversight
- Design RC and core drill programs to test exploration targets
- Develop drill plans including collar locations, azimuth, dip, and depth specifications
- Coordinate drilling contractors and oversee daily field progress
- Log drill core and RC samples including lithology, alteration, mineralization, and structural features
- Maintain strong QA/QC protocols for sampling and geological data collection
Geological Data Management \& Modeling
- Develop and update 3D geological models and cross sections using industry software
- Maintain and validate geological databases
- Integrate assay results, mapping data, and structural information into evolving deposit models
Resource Development
Support the transition of exploration targets into resource models
Collaborate with mine planning and metallurgy teams to evaluate economic potential
Contribute to resource development workstreams and technical documentation
Technical Reporting
Prepare technical reports summarizing exploration activities and drill results
Contribute to internal reporting and technical documentation
Ensure exploration activities align with environmental and regulatory requirements
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or related geoscience discipline
- 2–5 years of experience in exploration or mining geology
- Experience logging RC and/or core drilling programs
- Strong understanding of structural geology and mineral systems
- Experience with geological modeling or GIS software such as Micromine, Vulcan, Surpac, or ArcGIS
- Ability to work effectively in field-based environments and active mining operations
- Additional experience with copper systems, geophysical interpretation, or resource reporting standards such as NI 43-101 or S-K 1300 would be advantageous.
- Working Environment
- The role includes a combination of office-based geological modeling and fieldwork in active mining environments. Candidates should be comfortable working in rugged terrain, supervising drilling programs, and supporting exploration campaigns.
