The USTA/Mid-Atlantic Foundation ("USTA/Mid-Atlantic"), one of 17 sections of the United States Tennis Association, is seeking an efficient, proactive, and detail-oriented

Human Resources ("HR") Generalist

to support daily HR operations in a fully remote capacity.

This full-time exempt position will be responsible for ensuring seamless execution of HR administration, payroll, compliance, and employee support functions. The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge of human resources principles, strong HRIS and payroll experience, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Overview

HR Operations \& Compliance Management

Ensures adherence to federal and multi-state employment laws, maintains accurate HR documentation, and proactively manages compliance to mitigate organizational risk.

Payroll \& HRIS Administration

Accurately administers payroll and HRIS systems while maintaining data integrity, confidentiality, and timely reporting.

Organizational \& Project Management Skills

Effectively prioritizes, tracks, and executes multiple HR tasks and projects within tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Communication \& Employee Support

Provides clear, professional, and responsive communication while serving as a trusted resource for employee inquiries and concerns.

Process Improvement \& Operational Efficiency

Identifies opportunities to streamline HR processes, enhance workflows, and support continuous operational improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll \& Benefits Administration

  • Administer weekly timekeeping and payroll functions.
  • Coordinate employee benefits programs and assist with benefit inquiries and open enrollment.
  • Reconcile monthly benefits statements and process invoices through the accounts payable system.
  • Maintain accurate payroll and HRIS records (Paycom experience preferred).

Recruitment \& Onboarding

  • Post job openings, review resumes, and assist in candidate selection.
  • Schedule interviews and prepare job offers.
  • Coordinate and conduct new hire orientations.
  • Update job descriptions and requirements for all positions.

Employee Support \& HR Operations

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance with federal and multi-state employment laws (DC, MD, VA, WV).
  • Track and manage the HR department’s project lists, to-do items, and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide comprehensive administrative HR support including digital file maintenance and HRIS updates.
  • Prepare bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual HR reports.
  • Other duties as requested.

Compliance \& Training

  • Maintain employee compliance records, including background checks, SafeSport training, CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
  • Support policy updates and standard operating procedure documentation.
  • Administer training and development programs, scheduling sessions and tracking participation.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Process Improvement

  • Collaborate with the HR Manager to optimize HR processes and operational efficiencies.
  • Support HR projects and strategic initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications

Education \& Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required. (Associate’s degree or High School Diploma may be substituted with equivalent experience.)
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in an HR Generalist or HR Specialist role.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on HRIS administration experience (Paycom strongly preferred).
  • Working knowledge of payroll administration.
  • Experience supporting multi-state compliance (DC, MD, VA, WV).
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive) preferred.
  • Experience in a small organization environment is highly desirable.

Additional Requirements

  • Must reside in the Mid-Atlantic region (MD, DC, VA, WV).
  • Ability to manage confidential information with integrity and discretion.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, lift up to 25 lbs., and perform repetitive motions with or without accommodation.
