CHP Project Manager – Distributed Energy

Location: Fully Remote (U.S. Based) \| 20% Travel

A well established distributed energy owner-operator with over two decades in the industry is seeking an experienced CHP Project Manager to join their growing team. This company owns and operates its assets, sells power and thermal energy directly to large commercial and institutional clients, and is in an aggressive growth phase with an expanding portfolio of data center, convention center, and university projects ranging from 2 to 25 MW.

Role Summary:

The CHP Project Manager will serve as the lead interface across pre-construction and construction activities, managing the full project lifecycle from ESA signature through commissioning. This person will work closely with an internal engineering team, coordinate with external consultants, and interface directly with clients and C-suite leadership. Projects range from 18 months to 4 years depending on scope.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact at the ESA signature stage and throughout project execution
  • Coordinate with electrical utilities on interconnect requirements and permitting
  • Manage environmental, emissions, HSE, and land use permitting and surveys
  • Solicit and manage RFPs for general contractors
  • Oversee procurement of major equipment including turbines and electrical switchgear
  • Coordinate with the internal engineering team on design reviews and commissioning activities
  • Manage project schedules and budgets across core and core\+ project types
  • Report directly to C-suite leadership and maintain strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in CHP or distributed energy project development and construction management
  • Strong knowledge of electrical utility coordination and interconnection processes
  • Experience managing environmental and energy permitting across multiple jurisdictions
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously at various stages of development
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with experience presenting to senior leadership and clients
  • Comfortable working remotely and independently in a small, fast paced team environment
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20% with projects primarily located in CA, AL, and MS
