The

Department of Neurosurgery

at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking a full-time

Advanced Practice Provider (APP)

to join our clinical faculty as an

Instructor

. This role focuses on

inpatient care for patients with a wide range of neurosurgical conditions

, including spine, cranial, endovascular, vascular, and stereotactic disorders.

As a faculty member, the APP will also have opportunities for

professional development

, including precepting medical learners, educating nursing and medical staff, participating in quality and safety improvement projects, engaging in clinical research, and mentoring residents and junior APPs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive and episodic patient assessments and manage inpatient neurosurgical cases.
• Establish diagnoses, order and interpret diagnostic studies, perform therapeutic procedures, and manage follow-up care per written physician practice agreements or protocols.
• Prescribe medications and monitor patient responses.
• Perform perioperative management and first-assist in surgeries as appropriate.
• Admit patients, order labs and imaging, and formulate treatment plans.
• Document clinical encounters accurately and maintain continuity of care through effective communication with healthcare team members.
• Function as a clinical leader and educator for physicians, nurses, and APPs.
• Participate in research, quality improvement initiatives, and professional development activities.
• Attend specialty conferences, training sessions, and board review courses.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Advanced Practice Nursing (Acute Care NP) or Physician Assistant program.
• Current license to practice in Colorado as an APP (NP or PA) with prescriptive authority.
• National certification as an APN or PA.

Preferred Qualifications

• Up to 1 year of inpatient or outpatient care experience.
• Experience assisting in neurosurgical procedures.
• Ability to care for high-acuity, high-complexity patients.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills within an APP/Physician/Resident care model.
