POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Fidus’ Associate roles provide an opportunity to help drive all aspects of the new investment evaluation, underwriting execution and post-close portfolio management process. The Associate will work in small MD-led deal teams and gain increasing responsibility through experience and often serve as a primary interface with portfolio company management teams. Essential Job Functions:
New Transaction Underwriting - Evaluate New Investment Opportunities
- Review offering memorandums and collaborate with deal team members to develop an investment thesis and identify an appropriate capital structure
- Develop Excel-based financial data analysis focused on detailed potential investment business and financial (LBO) models, historical and projected financial performance, and key operating metrics
- Conduct industry research (e.g., equity research reports, comparable company analysis, discussions with industry experts) to validate the targeted company’s market position
- Drive creation of preliminary investment overviews and more formal investment committee memorandums
- Collaborate on legal document review and negotiations
- Execute transaction closing
Portfolio Management – Monitor Existing Portfolio Company Investments
- Evaluate portfolio companies’ monthly financial reporting packages focusing on the monitoring of financial trends and key operating metrics
- Participate in portfolio company board meetings
- Participate in the evaluation of add-on investment opportunities (consistent with New Transaction Underwriting activities) and the execution of legal documentation amendments
- Assist in creating and reviewing SEC-mandated quarterly valuation memorandums
Capital Markets

Participate in the Placement and Arrangement of Syndicated Credit Facilities
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education / Previous Experience:
- Undergraduate degree, with major in a business-related discipline
- 2\+ years of relevant work experience (e.g., leverage finance, investment banking, transaction advisory services, debt capital markets, or accounting)
Technical Skills:
- Strong analytical, writing and communication skills
- Financial accounting experience preferred
- Prior financial modeling experience
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, with a focus on Excel and Word
