Job Description

School Counselor

— SR1 College Preparatory \& STEM Academy (SR1 CPSA) Canton, Mississippi • Full-time • Tuition-free public charter school (K–4)

ABOUT

SR1 CPSA SR1 CPSA is Mississippi's first and only STEM-focused college preparatory charter school — a tuition-free public school now in its fourth year. Our Vanguard Scholars are already setting the standard: 88% of our 3rd graders passed the Mississippi ELA reading assessment on their first attempt, more than 10 points above the statewide average. Global learning, international awareness, and diversity are woven through everything we do.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are searching for an innovative and passionate School Counselor to nurture the social-emotional growth, character, and well-being of every scholar. This is far more than a support role — you will help shape the culture of a young, ambitious school and champion the whole child so our students are ready to learn, lead, and thrive. We want someone who dreams big — a visionary ready to help SR1 CPSA grow into a top global school. If you believe elementary is where confidence, resilience, and a college-going mindset begin, we want to meet you.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

-

Design and deliver a proactive, developmentally appropriate school counseling program aligned to the ASCA National Model and our college-preparatory mission. - Provide individual and small-group counseling that builds social-emotional skills, resilience, and positive behavior. - Teach classroom lessons on character, self-regulation, empathy, goal-setting, and a college- and career-going mindset — starting in kindergarten. - Partner with teachers and families through a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) to respond to academic, behavioral, and emotional needs. - Serve as a caring first responder in moments of crisis and connect families to community resources when needed. - Champion global learning, international awareness, and a culture of belonging where every scholar and family feels valued. - Use data to identify needs, measure impact, and continuously improve student outcomes.

WHAT YOU BRING

-

A big-dreamer's mindset and a global vision — you want to help SR1 CPSA become a top global school and won't settle for ordinary. - Master's degree in School Counseling or a closely related field. - Valid Mississippi school counselor license/endorsement — or eligibility and willingness to obtain it. - A heart for elementary-age scholars and a belief that every child can achieve at the highest level. - Creativity, flexibility, and grit to thrive in a fast-growing startup school building toward its own permanent campus. - Strong collaboration and communication skills with students, families, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds. - Clear background check and any state-required clearances.

WHY SR1 CPSA

  • Competitive pay — compensation averaging about 2% above comparable roles in our area. (Please note we do not currently participate in PERS, Mississippi's Public Employees' Retirement System.) - Real impact — build our counseling program from the ground up and see your influence in every classroom. - A mission-driven team who believe every child deserves a world-class education, regardless of ZIP code. - A global, inclusive culture that celebrates diversity, international awareness, and the whole child.
