Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit

In partnership with faculty, staff and graduate students, OASIS provides thoughtful, innovative, and sustainable technical solutions to advance the College’s mission to ‘prepare people to solve the world’s most challenging problems.’ Information Services provides information technology services in support of the College of Arts and Science’s mission; specifically, it puts a personal face on technology services, delivering ‘hands-on’ personal, network, and instructional technology support to the College community. The Office: (1) coordinates all information technology services at the College level; (2) establishes and implements College level computing policy and procedures; (3) represents and advocates information technology interests of the College to the broader community; and (4) acts as the primary liaison between the College and University Information Technology Services. The Office reports directly to the Dean’s office, College of Arts and Sciences.

Position Summary

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a Temporary Web Developer to support website development and digital accessibility initiatives. This position will assist with maintaining and improving university web properties built on WordPress, ensuring content meets institutional standards for usability and accessibility. The developer will collaborate with staff to implement updates, improve site functionality, and help ensure digital materials comply with web accessibility standards. Key Responsibilities Maintain and update university websites built in WordPress, including content updates, layout adjustments, and troubleshooting. Implement web design and development improvements to enhance usability, performance, and accessibility. Ensure websites follow digital accessibility best practices?(e.g., WCAG guidelines). Conduct accessibility remediation for digital documents including PDFs, Word documents, and PowerPoint presentations. Work with staff to identify and resolve accessibility or functionality issues. Assist with testing and quality assurance across browsers and devices. Document processes or updates as needed. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

High School or General Educational Development diploma and six months of experience. Equivalent coursework in computer operations or information technology from a technical school or community college may be substituted for the required experience.

  • Journey level requires an additional 6 months of education or experience.
  • Advanced level requires an additional one year of education or experience

Management Preferences

Working knowledge of digital accessibility standards and best practices.

Familiarity with HTML, CSS, or basic web development principles.

Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining websites using content management systems such as WordPress; CSS; and html Experience with WCAG 2\.x accessibility guidelines Experience working in higher education or with large organizational websites which rely on teamwork and timely communications

Experience with educational digital mediums such as Learning Management Systems (Canvas) or Office 365
