Job Description
We are looking for a Field Chemist to support an environmental consulting firm based in Cincinnati, OH.
This role will involve travel across the state of Ohio.
Hours will be M-F, Daylight with some travel overnight involved occasionally.
Primary Purpose
Responsible for sorting, and transporting hazardous and non-hazardous materials and waste. Will ensure compatibility and safety processes at all time for each job and lab pack services provided to customers. Some travel will be required as this position will fill in at outside locations as necessary.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Prioritizing Health \& Safety as the primary objective by adhering to policies and procedures and consistently maintaining a safe approach.
- Aiding in the classification of chemicals based on hazard class, ensuring proper segregation, and utilizing suitable containers for transportation while completing essential documentation for each job.
- Identifying and preparing necessary supplies for job completion and traveling to various industrial, laboratory, and educational sites to perform lab pack services.
- Assisting in the characterization of materials at field project locations.
- Adhering to appropriate placarding and load segregation guidelines during the transportation of hazardous materials.
- Building positive relationships with clients through effective and clear communication.
- Supervising and guiding Field Technicians/Drivers involved in waste collection activities.
- Possessing introductory knowledge of managing and assessing high hazard materials and handling cylinders.
Desired Skills and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field preferred.
- Prior experience with hazardous materials, waste handling, laboratory packing, environmental services, or related work is beneficial but not required.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and hazardous waste management practices is a plus; comprehensive training will be provided.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record required.
- Ability to pass pre-employment requirements, including a physical exam, drug screening, and background check.
- Willingness to travel as needed and work while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection.
- Ability to obtain a Class B CDL with Tanker and Hazardous Materials endorsements within six months of hire. Candidates who already hold these certifications are encouraged to apply.
