Job Description:

Field Chemist

Apex Systems is seeking a Field Chemist for one of our clients based out of Albany, NY. This role is designed for individuals who prefer active, hands-on work. As a Field Chemist, you’ll work directly at customer sites—handling, identifying, and preparing chemical materials for safe transport and disposal.

If you enjoy working with your hands, being in different environments, and tackling real-world challenges, this is an opportunity to build a meaningful and practical skillset. If you or anyone you know would be interested in this position or would like to learn more, please apply now or send all resumes to [email protected]

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Travel to industrial, laboratory, and academic sites to perform chemical packing and waste services
  • Sort, identify, and package chemical materials based on hazard class and compatibility
  • Perform lab pack operations in the field—this is not a bench or research lab role
  • Load trucks with required equipment and materials for daily assignments
  • Prepare shipping documentation and manifests in accordance with regulations
  • Assist with on-site material identification and characterization
  • Ensure proper labeling, placarding, and safe transportation practices
  • Work closely with Field Technicians and Drivers to complete projects efficiently
  • Communicate with site contacts to ensure smooth, professional service

This role is:

  • Hands-on and physically active
  • Field-based, working at different customer locations
  • Focused on real-world application of science and safety practices

Required Qualifications:

  • Background in a science-related field (Chemistry, Environmental Science, or similar)
  • Comfort with hands-on, physical work and field environments
  • Strong attention to detail with a safety-first mindset
  • Willingness to learn specialized skills in chemical handling and lab packing
  • Reliable, adaptable, and able to work as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills when working with team members and customers
  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to obtain a Class B CDL with Hazmat endorsement within a defined timeframe
  • Ability to meet motor vehicle record standards
  • Must be clean-shaven when required to safely wear a respirator

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Work in real-world environments, not just controlled lab settings
  • Build specialized, hands-on experience from day one
  • Develop practical skills that are highly transferable across industries
  • Be part of a team that values safety, reliability, and problem-solving
