Company Description:
Weschler’s Auctioneers \& Appraisers is a long-established auction house and has been a trusted partner for families in the D.C. Metro Area and beyond since 1890\. As a multi-generational, family-led business, they provide personalized care and clear market guidance to help you through life's transitions—whether you are settling an estate, downsizing your home, or selling a cherished collection.
Role Description:
This is a full-time, on-site Fine Art/Inventory Photographer role based in Rockville, MD. The Fine Art/Inventory Photographer will be responsible for photographing fine art, decorative arts, jewelry, furniture, and other auction inventory to produce clear, accurate, and visually compelling images for catalogs, online listings, and marketing materials. Daily tasks include preparing and staging items, managing lighting and backgrounds, capturing multiple angles and detail shots, and ensuring consistent visual standards across all imagery. The role also involves organizing and naming digital files, uploading images to internal systems, and coordinating with cataloging, marketing, and appraisal teams to meet production deadlines. The photographer will support the broader auction workflow by helping handle inventory, maintaining studio and camera equipment, and following safety and handling protocols for valuable and fragile objects.
Qualifications:
- Strong photography skills, including studio and Digital Photography, with experience in Product Photography for catalog or e-commerce environments.
- Knowledge of Fine Art and Art handling, with an appreciation for visual detail, composition, and condition documentation.
- Proficiency with digital cameras, lighting equipment, and image-editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom).
- Excellent organizational skills for file management, image labeling, and coordination with inventory systems.
- Ability to safely handle and stage delicate or high-value objects, often of varying sizes and weights.
- Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and ability to work efficiently under deadlines in a fast-paced auction environment.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work closely with specialists, appraisers, and marketing staff.
- Prior experience in auction houses, galleries, museums, or commercial product photography is preferred; relevant coursework or a degree in Photography, Fine Art, or a related field is a plus.
