This position is a salaried research and development position responsible for developing and testing primarily waterborne dispersions for paperboard and other packaging applications. The ideal candidate will have experience formulating and testing pigment dispersions for waterborne printing inks and coatings. The candidate will need to have noted experience running laboratory mills and analyzing dispersions for quality utilizing the appropriate test methods. The ideal candidate will also have experience developing dispersions for ink-jet applications.

The position will report to the Technical Director – NA P\&B for Flint Group in West Chester, Ohio, but will be part of a global team responsible for pigment dispersions across the globe. As such, it is expected that the position will report daily into West Chester, but we may be open to Charlotte or Atlanta for the right candidate. The candidate will need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced workgroup, and must be comfortable communicating with employees, sales personnel, and customers on a daily basis.

Key job responsibilities:

  • Assure the Flint Group Safety Culture is integrated throughout the work environment
  • Formulate pigment dispersions based upon customer needs and specifications
  • Analyze pigment dispersions and document results in technical service reports
  • Maintain instrumentation and calibrations
  • Direct weekly tasks of one laboratory technician
  • Communicate with suppliers for innovation ideas, pricing, and logistics
  • Work with Product Management and Marketing to develop technical data sheets
  • Provide support to the Beaufort and Pine Bluff locations as needed
  • Travel expected to be 10-20%

Education and competencies:

  • BS Chemistry, BS Chemical Engineering (or equivalent) with 10\+ years developing dispersions
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Demonstrate ability to work quickly and efficiently on multiply projects and assignments
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Computer literacy; Word and Excel
