Experience working within government or large-scale public sector projects is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in accessibility and inclusive design, with the ability to apply relevant guidelines effectively. Familiarity with web standards, progressive enhancement, and automated testing practices is desirable. Additionally, candidates should have excellent communication skills, the ability to review and provide constructive feedback on code, and a proactive approach to learning and development.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain accessible, inclusive user interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, adhering to WCAG guidelines, GOV.UK Design System patterns, and GDS web standards.

- Create and iterate prototypes and frontend components based on user needs, facilitating early testing and feedback to improve usability.
- Collaborate closely with designers, user researchers, and backend developers to understand user requirements and translate them into high-quality interfaces.
- Conduct testing of your code, identify and fix bugs, and address accessibility issues, contributing to automated testing and quality assurance activities.
- Support the ongoing operation of the data.gov.uk frontend by implementing small improvements, resolving issues, and learning about service support in production environments.
- Optimize performance, usability, and maintainability of the frontend, focusing on reducing page load times and enhancing user experience.
- Maintain clear communication through documentation, code comments, and team discussions, sharing knowledge and best practices with the wider frontend community.
