Job Description

About

AI learned language. Now it needs to learn worlds.

Origin Lab exists to build the data infrastructure for that shift. We acquire, capture, and deliver premium, rights-cleared multimodal content: game worlds, film, animation, 3D environments, to the AI researchers building the next generation of spatial AI systems. Not scraped data. Licensed, structured, captured at the source, with engine-level access, synchronized telemetry, and an end-to-end audit trail.

We are a small team moving fast. Every engineer shapes the product directly.

The role

As our first Full-Stack Engineer, you will own the platform that makes our catalog legible, searchable, and valuable to the researchers who use it. You will build across the full stack, frontend interfaces, backend APIs, data pipelines: working closely with the founding team and research interns translating model outputs into real product features.

This is a high-ownership role with direct impact on what AI labs see and interact with when they access Origin Lab's content. We are looking for a senior engineer who has been through the full arc: from prototype to production, from solo feature to team-scale architecture.

This role is based in Los Angeles, CA. We use a hybrid work model.

What you'll work on

Own platform features end-to-end, from data model to the interface a researcher actually clicks. Our stack is Next.js \+ FastAPI \+ PostgreSQL on AWS.

Build the interfaces through which buyers discover, preview, and assemble content. The quality of those interfaces is what turns our catalog from "a lot of data" into "the thing AI labs want to use."

Turn research outputs into production features. Our research team ships intelligence into the catalog: search, scoring, automated review, and you own the translation from experimental output to something customers rely on.

Ship the delivery side too: the pipelines and audit trails behind licensed content handoffs to AI labs.

Make architectural decisions that compound over time as the team grows, and maintain high standards in a codebase that AI tools help produce quickly but humans must own completely.

What we're looking for

  • 5\+ years of full-stack experience shipping production features across frontend and backend.
  • Comfort with Next.js and FastAPI \+ Python, our exact stack.
  • PostgreSQL at meaningful scale, including complex queries, async patterns, and migrations you actually had to think about.
  • Data-heavy interfaces: dashboards, timelines, search experiences, and a bias toward making them fast and usable, not just functional.
  • Familiarity with AWS or comparable cloud infrastructure.

Independence: You scope your own work, push back when a spec is wrong, and ship without hand-holding.

Product intuition: You think about what users need, not just what the ticket says, and you catch the gap between the two before it ships.

Comfort with agentic coding tools. We use Claude Code (and similar agentic systems) daily as part of how we ship. You should be fluent with these tools, opinionated about where they help and where they get in the way, and able to direct them effectively on real production work, while still owning the code that lands.

Genuine curiosity about AI and spatial data. Context makes you significantly more effective here.

Origin Lab

Origin Lab acquires, creates, and delivers AI-enriched catalogs across 3D environments, video game capture, TV/Film, and animation. Rights-cleared, model-ready content -- licensed, captured at the source, and delivered with the structure that world model training actually requires. We are working with AI researchers from Oxford, Google Research, and others to drive breakthroughs in Artificial World Intelligence.
