PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Supervise and assist high school students in the recovery and completion of high school credit and GED completion.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:

High School Diploma \& meet the District’s formal academic assessment required by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

Associates (or higher) degree OR 48 college credit hours

Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate

Meet the rigorous standard of quality required by the district

Special Knowledge/Skills

Work effectively and harmoniously with students, parents and school personnel

Follow written and/or oral directions and to exercise good judgment

Effective verbal and written communications skills

Manual dexterity and physical capabilities to perform all job requirements

Work well with children and effectively manage large and small groups

Physical/Mental abilities:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals; copy machine

Posture: Prolonged standing; moderate walking; occasional sitting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Some repetitive hand motions including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (up to 40 pounds)

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

Regular attendance is an essential function

Minimum Experience:

The experience of having worked with students and parents is preferred. This experience may be work in church-related schools, day camps, youth groups, private schools, licensed day-care or similar experiences

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Work independently and with campus personnel to identify students needing academic intervention based on academic indicators.
  • Maintain a system for progress monitoring of all identified at-risk students.
  • Collaborate with principal, assistant principal, and campus support staff to design an individualized plan for each student identified as at-risk
  • Work independently and with campus personnel to coordinate targeted academic interventions at Tier 2 and Tier 3, while providing regular updates to the principal, assistant principals, teachers, and other support staff.
  • Conduct learning exercises with individual students daily.
  • Attend technology training and updates for effective software use.
  • Alert staff members to special needs of individual students.
  • Assist students with the use of computers and associated software.
  • Maintain individual records for each student enrolled in the program.
  • Collect and display suitable material for educational displays.
  • Work with district attendance investigator and juvenile probation court systems to monitor and track progress toward fulfilling the requirements of court ordered GED's.
  • Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
  • Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned
