Job Description

Role: General Counsel Salary: $200K to $250K base Location: Midtown Manhattan

My client is seeking an experienced

General Counsel

to lead the organization's legal function and serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership. This role will oversee all legal, regulatory, and compliance matters, ensuring the company operates within applicable laws while supporting business growth and managing risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal guidance to executive leadership on a wide range of business matters
  • Oversee corporate governance, compliance, and risk management frameworks
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and commercial agreements
  • Manage litigation, disputes, and regulatory matters, working with external counsel as needed
  • Develop and implement legal policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations across jurisdictions
  • Support strategic initiatives, including transactions, partnerships, and corporate structuring
  • Identify potential legal risks and proactively implement mitigation strategies
  • Manage relationships with outside counsel and legal service providers

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar membership
  • Significant legal experience (typically 10\+ years), with a mix of law firm and/or in-house exposure
  • Strong knowledge of corporate law, contracts, and regulatory compliance
  • Proven ability to advise senior leadership and influence business decisions
  • Excellent negotiation, drafting, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills and executive presence

Preferred

  • Prior experience in a leadership or General Counsel role
  • Experience working in a high-growth or complex organizational environment
  • Business-minded approach with the ability to balance legal risk and commercial objectives
