Global Capital Markets (GCM) responds with market judgment and ingenuity to meet clients' needs for capital. Whether executing an IPO, a debt offering or a leveraged buyout, GCM integrates Morgan Stanley's expertise in Sales \& Trading and in Investment Banking (IBD), offering clients seamless advice and sophisticated solutions. We originate, structure and execute public and private placement of equities, investment-grade and non-investment-grade debt and related products.
Role Details
- The Strategic Lending Group (“SLG”) is responsible for the management and origination of a significant corporate loan portfolio and leads the investment committee process for corporate loan requests across Investment Banking and Global Capital Markets. SLG operates at the intersection of deal execution, risk, and strategy. The corporate loans are critical in driving client activity across the integrated investment bank.
- The Analyst / Associate will support the evaluation, structuring, approval, and ongoing management of corporate lending transactions and contribute to portfolio strategy initiatives.
- The role offers exposure to a wide range of financings, including M\&A and leveraged buyout commitments and working capital / liquidity facilities, and involves close partnership with stakeholders across IBD, GCM, Sales \& Trading, and Credit Risk Management teams.
- We assist in deal origination / structuring and are responsible for calculating returns, evaluating credit quality, assessing value proposition, optimizing financing structure and terms, and evaluating portfolio strategy and future revenue opportunities.
- SLG reviews and approves corporate and sponsor financings including M\&A and LBO commitments (event loans) as well as working capital / liquidity facilities (relationship loans).
- The team is looking to hire an Analyst / Associate who will be based in New York.
- Deal coverage responsibilities will include:
+ Review lending requests, provide feedback to deal teams and present to investment committee.
+ Interact with senior IBD and GCM management on significant commitment requests.
+ Coordinate with Fixed Income team related to hedge strategy, loan P\&L and secondary sales.
+ Work with deal teams to review and execute transactions, including negotiation of loan documentation related to working capital / liquidity facilities.
+ Coordinate with deal teams on challenged loans and drive decisions related to amendments, secondary sales and restructurings.
+ Work with groups across the Firm on the execution of transactions including Credit Risk Management, Operations, Legal, and Treasury.
- Project Activities include:
+ Provide senior management with regular reporting and analysis related to the portfolio.
+ Ad-hoc projects including conducting large scale data analysis, monitoring market and industry trends, and staying closely aligned with the Firm’s evolving strategic priorities and portfolio objectives
- Skills Required:
+ 0 to 3 years of experience within financial sector; experience in Global Capital Markets, Investment Banking, and / or Corporate Finance encouraged.
+ Extraordinarily high level of motivation and commitment to working hard.
+ Extraordinarily high level of focus on work quality and attention to detail.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Strong client and interpersonal skills.
+ Commercial instinct and effectively prioritize and handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
+ Bachelor’s degree is required; must have Regulatory licensing or obtain.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $110,000 and $125,000 per year for Analyst, and between $150,000 and $225,000 per year for Associate, at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
