Head of Software Engineering

to lead the scale-up of their modern product engineering function.

The Role

As Head of Software Engineering, you’ll lead the next-generation engineering teams responsible for new product development, modern platform architecture, and future hiring growth.

This is a leadership-first role, suited to someone who thrives on scaling teams, bringing in strong talent, implementing structure, and delivering modern engineering excellence.

You won’t be inheriting legacy systems or spending your time untangling old environments. Instead, your focus will be on building what comes next.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Build and scale new engineering teams across product and platform delivery
  • Lead hiring strategy, workforce planning, and team design as headcount grows
  • Manage and develop Engineering Managers, Team Leads, and senior ICs
  • Partner with Product and Executive leadership on roadmap execution
  • Own engineering standards, delivery processes, and team performance for the modern stack
  • Oversee architecture direction across

TypeScript, React, and Node.js

environments

  • Create a high-performance culture centred around ownership, quality, and pace
  • Introduce scalable processes, metrics, and delivery predictability
  • Work closely with the existing Head of Technology to ensure alignment across legacy and modern systems
  • Help define the long-term technology organisation as the business scales

What We’re Looking For

Leadership \& Team Building

  • Proven experience scaling software engineering teams in high-growth environments
  • Strong track record hiring top engineers and building strong leadership layers
  • Experience leading Managers or multiple engineering squads

Technical Credibility

  • Strong background in modern software engineering environments
  • Experience with

TypeScript

React

, and

Node.js

ecosystems

  • Able to guide architecture and technical direction without needing to code daily

Growth Mindset

  • Excited by building new teams rather than maintaining legacy estates
  • Comfortable operating in fast-moving, evolving businesses

Commercial \& Strategic Thinking

  • Strong stakeholder management skills

FinTech / Payments Experience

  • Experience in payments, fintech, SaaS, or transaction-led businesses highly beneficial
