Coffee for the Soul is a growing coffee shop and restaurant company with 18 locations and an ongoing expansion plan.

We are seeking a bilingual, proactive, and highly organized Human Resources Generalist to manage key HR processes within a fast-paced, multi-location, and multi-state environment.

Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist will report directly to the Human Resources Manager and will manage employee relations, onboarding, compliance, benefits administration, employment documentation, workplace investigations, corrective action, Workers’ Compensation, OSHA-related processes, and general Human Resources operations.

This position requires the ability to independently analyze workplace situations, interpret policies, identify legal and operational risks, recommend appropriate actions, and guide managers in the consistent application of company policies.

Recruiting will not be the primary responsibility of this role. However, the Human Resources Generalist must be able to support interviews, candidate selection, hiring, and onboarding when business needs require it.

This position will begin as a temporary full-time assignment. It may become permanent based on performance, organizational needs, and company approval. Permanent employment is not guaranteed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage onboarding processes through ADP Workforce Now and ADP TotalSource.
  • Review and maintain Form I-9, E-Verify, employee records, and compliance documentation.
  • Manage employee questions and administrative processes involving benefits, COBRA, PTO, and leaves of absence.
  • Evaluate employee relations matters and present findings and recommendations to the Human Resources Manager.
  • Conduct workplace investigations, including interviews, evidence review, documentation, and preparation of findings.
  • Prepare written warnings, performance improvement plans, progressive discipline, and corrective action recommendations.
  • Interpret company policies and guide managers on fair and consistent application.
  • Coordinate administrative offboarding and employee separation processes.
  • Manage Workers’ Compensation documentation, OSHA-related matters, work restrictions, and return-to-work processes.
  • Maintain HR reports, trackers, audits, employee files, and compliance controls.
  • Identify documentation inconsistencies, employment compliance risks, and process improvement opportunities.
  • Support performance management and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Assist with recruiting and selection activities when required.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of personal, medical, compensation, investigative, and disciplinary information.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive Human Resources experience.
  • Experience supporting foodservice, restaurants, hospitality, retail, or a related industry.
  • Experience working in multi-location and multi-state organizations.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now, ADP TotalSource, Form I-9, and E-Verify.
  • Experience managing employee relations, workplace investigations, discipline, Workers’ Compensation, OSHA-related processes, and benefits administration.
  • Working knowledge of the FLSA, ADA, Title VII, the Illinois Human Rights Act, and the Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act.
  • Ability to analyze workplace situations, exercise professional judgment, and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work with limited supervision, and follow matters through completion.
  • Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Connecteam, Toast, ADP TotalSource, Restaurant365, and/or SharePoint.
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or an equivalent Human Resources certification.
