Job Description
ABOUT US
ERISA Recovery is a fast-moving, high-tech company specializing in healthcare billing services for hospitals, clinics, and provider organizations. Our platform processes and safeguards large volumes of Protected Health Information (PHI) in strict compliance with HIPAA and applicable federal and state regulations. We operate at the intersection of cutting-edge AI and mission-critical healthcare infrastructure — where the stakes are high, the problems are hard, and the work genuinely matters.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is an exceptional entry point for an early-career engineer who wants to grow fast inside a real-world AI environment. You will join a senior engineering team building agentic AI solutions across our on-premises infrastructure and AWS Bedrock, learning from experienced practitioners while making meaningful contributions from day one.
We believe in learning by doing. You will be paired with a senior mentor, take on scoped tasks with clear ownership, and steadily expand your responsibilities as your skills develop. If you are curious, security-conscious, and excited about the frontier of applied AI — we want to hear from you.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the development and testing of agentic AI pipelines, including prompt engineering, tool-use patterns, and multi-step workflow components under senior guidance.
- Write clean, well-documented Python code for AI integrations, data preprocessing pipelines, and internal tooling.
- Support the integration of AWS Bedrock models and on-premises LLMs into existing systems.
- Build and maintain unit tests, integration tests, and evaluation harnesses to ensure AI component quality and reliability.
- Assist with RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) implementations, including document ingestion, chunking strategies, and vector store management.
- Follow and actively learn security best practices — including data handling policies, access controls, and HIPAA-compliant development workflows.
- Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and architecture discussions, contributing questions and fresh perspectives.
- Research and summarize emerging AI tools, frameworks, and techniques relevant to our product roadmap.
- Document technical designs, API contracts, and operational runbooks to support team knowledge sharing.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field — OR equivalent demonstrated experience through projects, bootcamps, or open-source contributions.
- Solid Python fundamentals including object-oriented design, working with APIs, and handling data structures.
- Basic familiarity with machine learning or AI concepts — through coursework, personal projects, or professional exposure.
- Understanding of RESTful API design and experience consuming or building APIs.
- Exposure to version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows.
- Genuine curiosity about large language models and demonstrated interest in the agentic AI space (side projects, coursework, research, or writing all count).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills — this team writes clear documentation and explains complex ideas simply.
- A security-aware mindset and willingness to take data privacy seriously from day one.
NICE TO HAVE (NOT REQUIRED)
These are genuine bonus points — not hidden requirements. If you have a few of these, great. If not, we will help you develop them.
- Hands-on experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, Hugging Face, or similar).
- Familiarity with any AI orchestration framework such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or AutoGen.
- Exposure to cloud platforms, especially AWS (S3, Lambda, IAM, or EC2 at any level).
- Experience with vector databases or semantic search (Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS, pgvector).
- Any exposure to HIPAA, healthcare data, or other regulated data environments.
- Coursework or projects involving NLP, information retrieval, or data pipelines.
- Contributions to open-source projects or a GitHub portfolio demonstrating initiative.
ROLE
We take junior engineer development seriously. In this role you can expect:
- A dedicated senior mentor for your first 90 days, with structured check-ins and clear growth milestones.
- Increasing ownership of features and components as your confidence and skills build.
- A generous learning and development budget for online courses, certifications (AWS, LLM-focused), and conferences.
- Exposure to the full AI development lifecycle — from problem scoping and data handling to deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
- A front-row seat to production agentic AI systems handling real healthcare workflows — experience very few early-career engineers get.
SECURITY \& COMPLIANCE EXPECTATIONS
We handle Protected Health Information every day. All team members — regardless of experience level — are expected to:
- Complete HIPAA Privacy and Security training before accessing any internal systems or data.
- Pass a thorough background screening process.
- Adhere to data handling policies: no PHI on personal devices, mandatory MFA, and VPN usage at all times.
- Ask questions and speak up when something seems off — a junior engineer flagging a potential security issue is a hero, not a problem.
- Participate in regular security awareness training and team-level compliance reviews.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive salary benchmarked to junior/associate engineer market rates.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits effective from day one.
- A mission-driven team where your work improves healthcare operations for real patients.
- Collaborative, low-ego culture where asking questions is encouraged and growth is celebrated.
- Clear career path toward mid-level and senior AI engineering roles as you develop.
HOW TO APPLY
Submit your resume and a short note (300 words or fewer) on one of the following: a project where you used or explored AI/ML, something you built that you are proud of, or a problem in healthcare or data systems that you would love to help solve. We read every application.
