Job Description

About the Company

The organization is a vertically integrated graphite and battery materials producer supporting the global energy transition. Its Louisiana facility produces active anode material (AAM) for lithium-ion batteries and plays a key role in strengthening the U.S. battery supply chain.

Position Overview

Seeking a hands-on Lab Chemist to support the setup and operation of a new on-site coin cell laboratory. This is a critical hire that will enable in-house electrochemical testing capability.

The successful candidate will play a key role in building the lab from the ground up, commissioning equipment, and supporting day-to-day testing operations. This role offers the opportunity to be involved in both the initial lab build-out and future expansion into a larger, centralized laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the setup and commissioning of a new coin cell laboratory, including layout, workflows, and processes
  • Support the retrofit of an existing space into a temporary lab environment
  • Oversee installation, calibration, and qualification of lab equipment
  • Perform coin cell assembly and electrochemical testing
  • Manage daily laboratory operations, ensuring efficiency and data integrity
  • Support broader lab commissioning activities across the site
  • Provide cross-training within the team and act as backup to the Lab Superintendent
  • Contribute to future transition into larger, permanent lab facilities

Technical Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with coin cell assembly and testing (essential)
  • Strong background in electrochemical testing methods
  • Experience supporting lab setup, commissioning, or scale-up activities
  • Understanding of lithium-ion battery systems, including both cathode and anode materials
  • Familiarity with lab environments, pilot lines, or battery R\&D settings

Preferred Background

  • Cathode materials experience is highly transferable; exposure to anode materials is beneficial
  • Experience within battery manufacturing, materials science, or chemical processing environments
  • Background in industry, national laboratories, or university research settings

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree with 5\+ years of relevant hands-on experience will also be considered

Candidate Profile

  • Hands-on, practical laboratory experience with a strong problem-solving mindset
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, developing environment
  • Ability to take ownership of lab setup and operations
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality
