Job Description

Many educators burn out battling bureaucracy. They draft lesson plans no one reviews. They endure meetings that produce no meaningful change. You recognized long ago that none of that is the real work. The real work is the student sitting across from you.

At Alpha, academic instruction is delivered through software. Adaptive applications guide each student through coursework at an individualized pace. There are no lectures, no homework assignments, no grading papers. This structure liberates you to focus on what truly transforms lives: facilitating life skill workshops where high schoolers develop public speaking, concentration, and feedback skills, then providing one-on-one coaching to sustain their motivation and achieve their learning targets. Half your time is spent facilitating group sessions. The other half is dedicated to individual conversations, using Coachbot analytics to pinpoint exactly where a student is struggling and why.

After each workshop, students will complete a mastery-based assessment. 90%\+ should rate your sessions positively. 100% should be progressing through their learning apps. These aren't stretch goals; they're minimum expectations. Upholding rigorous standards demonstrates your confidence in their potential. Through this work, you'll develop expertise in creating workshops that captivate teenagers, mastering advanced learning software, and forming meaningful relationships with students and families. Our Brownsville campus is located adjacent to SpaceX. The cutting edge of education intersects with the cutting edge of aerospace, and you'll be the one fulfilling Alpha's central mission: students who are enthusiastic about school, learn at twice the conventional rate, and acquire capabilities that genuinely prepare them for the real world. If you've been searching for a school that operates the way you believe schools should operate, you've found it.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skill workshops for high school students covering subjects such as public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback exchange, followed by mastery evaluation through a structured Test2Pass assessment
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions leveraging Coachbot analytics to engage with students individually, diagnose obstacles in their learning applications, and guide them through challenges
  • Co-creating personalized motivational approaches with students, incorporating rewards and incentives that encourage autonomous advancement through their academic apps
  • Preparing by reviewing curriculum and lesson plans prior to each session, then adjusting your approach based on group dynamics and student engagement

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Teaching traditional academic content. Mathematics, literacy, and all other subjects are delivered via software.
  • Administering a school or supervising staff. No budget responsibilities, no recruitment duties, no administrative meetings; your sole priority is the students in your cohort.
  • Enforcing discipline through conventional authority structures. No detention assignments, no suspension decisions, no appeals to hierarchy. You rely on reasoning and positive reinforcement to cultivate a respectful, dynamic learning environment.

Life Skills Coach Key Responsibilities

Develop a cohort of high school students who are passionate about school, achieve 2x accelerated learning through adaptive software, and exhibit mastery of practical life skills.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any subject
  • 3\+ years of experience working directly with high school students (ages 13-18)
  • Willing to work in-person in Oklahoma City, OK (relocation assistance available)
  • Legal right to work in the US

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Experience as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program coordinator who has inspired teenagers in non-classroom settings
  • Demonstrated history of guiding groups toward quantifiable objectives (completion percentages, performance metrics, behavioral improvements)
  • Familiarity with adaptive learning platforms or educational technology tools
  • Narrative skills that command the attention of teenage audiences, communicated with cultural sensitivity and authenticity
