Job Description
Barnes Law is a boutique commercial disputes firm. We act for businesses and high-net-worth individuals on complex, high-value commercial litigation matters and we're growing.
We're looking for a Litigation Paralegal who's ready to hit the ground running. This isn't a passive role. You'll be working directly alongside our solicitors on live matters from day one, with real responsibility and a genuine expectation that you can think on your feet.
THE ROLE
You'll be involved across all stages of commercial dispute proceedings, from pre-action protocol right through to trial and enforcement. Day to day, you can expect to be:
▪ Drafting court documents, witness statements, and correspondence
▪ Conducting legal research under CPR and advising on procedural points
▪ Managing disclosure exercises and document review
▪ Preparing court and trial bundles to exacting standards
▪ Liaising with clients, counsel, and the courts
▪ Monitoring case management timetables and directions orders
▪ Supporting fee earners at every stage of litigation
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
▪ Minimum one year's experience in a litigation department at a law firm- this is a firm requirement
▪ Solid working knowledge of CPR and court processes in England and Wales
▪ Experience with pre-action protocols, disclosure, and court bundles
▪ Strong written English and the ability to draft clearly without supervision
▪ Commercial awareness and the ability to grasp complex facts quickly
▪ Genuine proactivity — you spot problems before they arise
▪ A paralegal qualification, law degree, or equivalent experience
▪ Real commitment to building a career in commercial litigation at a boutique firm
This role is for someone who sees paralegal work as a natural career progression.
THE PROCESS
We take hiring seriously. Shortlisted candidates will go through a two-stage interview process, which will include written and/or practical testing.
Please note: if you require a work permit or visa sponsorship to work in the UK, you must state this clearly in your application. Applications that do not disclose this at the outset will not be progressed.
WHY BARNES LAW?
▪ Genuine exposure to complex, high-stakes commercial matters
▪ A close-knit team where your work is seen and valued
▪ Hybrid working
▪ Clear progression for those who want it
▪ Competitive salary depending on experience
If this sounds like you, send your CV and a covering note to [email protected].
A polite note: we do not accept AI-generated CVs or covering letters. We read every application carefully and, with respect, we do spot them — they tend to say a great deal whilst repeating the same points in slightly different ways. We want to hear your voice, not a algorithm's interpretation of it.
