Job Description
Montessori Lead Teacher shall have the following responsibilities:* Understand and actively support the school's mission and vision.
- Arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of class ; Remain in school until 4:00 pm to discuss the day’s events with the Assistant, Co-Teacher, Associate Teacher, and/or Intern.
- Complete daily recordkeeping, plan, and prepare the classroom for the next day. Prepare for conferences and reports throughout the year according to schedule.
- Assist with and oversee the arrival and dismissal of students.
- Ensure the welfare, safety, and educational achievements of students.
- Monitor the whereabouts of the students in your care at all times, and maintain accurate attendance and accurate count of all students in your care.
- Provide leadership in implementing the Curriculum/Scope and Sequence; develop and maintain a strong command of the curriculum.
- Create and distribute weekly newsletters for classroom families and the wider school community to increase home-school connections.
- Keep up-to-date with and make regular use of current technology for planning, communication, and for instruction.
- Prepare a schedule or plan for each student during all absences, including providing at-home work plans for Distance Learning on snow days.
- Maintain knowledge of current research on teaching and subject areas relevant to your program and level.
- Perform tasks necessary to maintain a safe, clean, orderly, regulation compliant, and attractive environment.
- Ensure the flow of activities and events during the work period are productive and include smooth transitions.
- Communicate clear and appropriate expectations to the students.
- Communicate clear and consistent expectations to the parents; respond to parent email/phone messages within 24 hours.
- Notify the Head of Lower School, Learning Specialist, and Lower School Counselor of students with special needs or difficulties and be prepared to discuss constructively with parents.
- Comply with student confidentiality rules.
- Maintain a positive professional and collegial relationship with all faculty and staff
- Attend and participate in school functions that relate to your position or teaching level and attend Barrie School functions that support the school and your program; Attend all staff meetings and scheduled Professional Days.
- Notify the Head of Lower School as soon as possible in the event of illness or anticipated absence
- Maintain awareness and familiarity with the Barrie School’s Emergency Plan and Procedures
- Complete regular CPR, AED, First Aid, EpiPen trainings, and annual Allergy and Blood-borne Pathogens training.
- Comply with ADA standards in working with students of various abilities. This may require participation in meetings, training, and planning cooperatively to fully serve each child’s needs.
- Comply with the guidelines of the Barrie School’s Employee Handbook.
- Contribute to the health and wellness of the Barrie School community.
- Montessori Elementary Credential from a MACTE accredited organization
- 3-5 years experience working with children in a school setting.
- A commitment to working with children and supporting the Associate Teacher, Assistant Teacher or Intern,
and colleagues every day throughout the school year.
