Role Description

The Machine Learning Lead will oversee the design, development, and deployment of ML models that power Coinflow’s fraud prevention, risk assessment, and payment optimization capabilities. This full-time, on-site role in Chicago, IL involves leading a small team of ML engineers and data scientists, setting technical direction, and collaborating closely with product, engineering, and operations to integrate models into production systems. Day-to-day tasks include defining ML roadmaps, designing experiments, building and validating models, reviewing code and model architectures, and ensuring robust monitoring and performance of deployed systems. The Machine Learning Lead will also help establish best practices in data governance, model explainability, and compliance, while contributing to strategic decisions around AI and data-driven products.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Computer Science, including data structures, Algorithms, and software engineering principles.
  • Advanced expertise in Machine Learning and Deep Learning, with experience building and deploying production-grade models.
  • Solid background in Statistics and applied quantitative methods for experimentation, model evaluation, and performance analysis.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related technical field; PhD is a plus.
  • Experience leading ML or data teams, including mentorship, technical decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Hands-on experience with modern ML frameworks and tools (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, SQL, Python), and cloud platforms.
  • Background in fintech, payments, fraud detection, or high-scale transactional systems is highly beneficial.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business recommendations.
