The Facilities Management Division is seeking a highly qualified

Maintenance Technician

. The Maintenance Technician position is essential to the maintenance district as it performs a wide range of duties such as painting, carpentry, minor electrical, dry wall, plumbing, and minor HVAC repairs for the purpose of maintaining and repairing buildings throughout the Corrections Complex.

Job Description

General Functions:

This key position performs a variety of maintenance, service, and repair tasks that may involve buildings, facilities, mechanical equipment, plumbing, electrical systems, or carpentry utilized in the operations of the assigned divisions.

Work is assigned and reviewed by the District Maintenance Supervisor or other designated supervisor. Performance is evaluated through observation of work in progress and upon completion for achievement of desired results in a safe and efficient manner.

Representative Duties/Assignments:

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Checks and maintains assigned facility, equipment or system for preventive maintenance and critical operation factors.
  • Using a variety of tools, test and calibration equipment applies accepted maintenance, service, and repair procedures to maintain or return item to proper operation conditions.
  • Modifies or replaces components as necessary.
  • Consults with specific trades' employees or supervisor on special maintenance and repair problems.
  • Performs service and minor repairs on a wide variety of equipment.
  • Multi-trade assignments and responsibilities based on daily operational needs.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in special maintenance, service, repair tasks to plumbing systems, building envelope, mechanical and/or HVAC equipment and electrical systems. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

May be required to possess and maintain the appropriate valid Commercial Driver's License.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.

Preferences:

General knowledge of building maintenance (i.e. apartment complex maintenance).

Ability to learn and the willingness to be trained and/or obtain training in skilled areas.

Basic skills such as electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.

Must be willing to be sent on routine calls (i.e. changing lights, outlets, switch plates, HVAC filters; unstop toilets, etc.) and assist skilled trades personnel when needed.

Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, shifts, standby and after-hours due to operational requirements.

Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

May be required to possess and maintain the appropriate valid Commercial Driver¿s License for the type of equipment operated.

Pay Grade: 010 - From $18\.10 to $22\.97

Notes

Selected candidates will be required to provide employment references and will be required to complete a pre-employment drug, physical and background check.

Standard work hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Work hours may include weekends, after-hours, and post hurricane response due to operational needs.

The initial assignment is 33rd Street (Corrections

) however, this position is subject to assignment at any Facilities Management location due to project, task, or operational requirements.
