Job Description

About VU Custom

VU Custom is a private equity-backed company supported by Greybull Stewardship. We enable leading consumer brands to deliver personalized and custom products through a modern SaaS platform that connects eCommerce, manufacturing, fulfillment, and order management. VU OS supports more than 70 brands across 260 sites and delivers order information to more than 175 factories globally. Our clients include Vera Bradley, BrüMate, Chaco Sandals, Bauer Hockey, and more. As we continue to scale, we’re investing in a modern commercial marketing capability that helps the market understand not only what our platform does, but the measurable business value it creates.

The Role

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Marketing will build and lead a scalable commercial marketing system that accelerates MRR (Monthly Recurring Revenue) growth by helping prospects and customers understand, evaluate, adopt, and expand their use of VU OS. This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role, and one where you'll be expected to execute across the responsibilities below. Success comes from creating repeatable systems that translate product innovation, customer outcomes, and market insight into measurable business growth.

You'll set direction while remaining deeply involved in execution, leveraging the best combination of internal resources, agencies, PR partners, AI, automation, technology, and your own direct contribution. This role is accountable for marketing outcomes, not simply marketing activity.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Strategy \& Marketing Leadership

  • Shape the company's commercial marketing strategy and annual operating plan to drive qualified pipeline, customer acquisition, commercialization, expansion, and recurring MRR growth.
  • Align marketing priorities with Product, Sales, Customer Success, Account Management, Finance, and executive leadership.
  • Develop dashboards and operating metrics that clearly demonstrate marketing's contribution to pipeline, customer acquisition, expansion, commercialization, and recurring MRR growth.
  • Guide investment decisions across people, agencies, technology, AI, and marketing programs based on business impact and ROI.
  • Lead and coach the Product Marketing function while directing agency and vendor partners to ensure consistent execution of VU Custom's commercial marketing strategy.

Demand Generation, Customer Value \& Growth

  • Build a measurable demand generation engine that strengthens both outbound sales effectiveness and facilitates strong inbound demand generation, with a consistent system for converting marketing initiatives into leads and managing them through the funnel to sales handoff.
  • Enable Sales with messaging, competitive positioning, customer proof, and account-based content, built by translating customer outcomes and marketing insights into case studies, ROI narratives, demos, and other proof points that drive engagement and conversion.
  • Build and own the end-to-end case study and customer proof process: identifying candidate customers, coordinating with account teams and customers directly, running interviews, and producing the final asset.
  • Balance content, partnerships, PR, executive thought leadership, digital marketing, events, paid media, and ABM based on pipeline quality, sales-cycle impact, MRR contribution, and ROI.

Product Marketing, Commercialization \& Market Intelligence

  • Develop and maintain brand messaging as living assets, updated as the platform, market, and competitive landscape evolves.
  • Become an expert in VU OS, its capabilities, customer workflows, integrations, implementation approach, and the business challenges it solves.
  • Craft clear messaging that explains what the platform does today, who it serves, why it matters, and how it differs from alternative solutions.
  • Commercialize new products, pricing, packaging, and capabilities through coordinated launch plans and scalable customer communications.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of competitors, buyer expectations, and market trends, translating market intelligence into actionable recommendations for Product without owning the roadmap.
  • Connect customer and prospect insights to product investments, helping quantify commercial opportunities tied to adoption, expansion, competitive differentiation, and MRR growth.

Marketing Operations, Scale \& Performance

  • Own, maintain, and optimize all marketing channels directly, including the website, social media, email, and other owned properties, keeping them current, on-brand, and performing.
  • Leverage AI, automation, and modern marketing technology to accelerate research, content creation, personalization, reporting, customer-proof development, and sales enablement.
  • Build repeatable marketing systems that transform product updates, customer successes, executive perspectives, and market intelligence into consistent market-facing communications and supports an overall go-to-market roadmap.
  • Strengthen VU Custom's visibility across SEO and AI-driven discovery, including AEO and GEO, ensuring buyers can easily discover and evaluate the platform.
  • Select, direct, and evaluate agencies, PR firms, consultants, freelancers, and specialist partners while retaining ownership of strategy, messaging, quality, and business outcomes.
  • Continuously optimize marketing technology, automation, resource allocation, and external partnerships to improve speed, quality, consistency, and measurable results.

Qualifications

  • 8\+ years of progressive B2B SaaS marketing experience with increasing strategic responsibility.
  • Demonstrated success across demand generation, product marketing, commercialization, and measurable revenue growth.
  • Strong ability to translate complex technology into compelling customer value and commercial outcomes.
  • Experience partnering effectively with Product, Sales, Customer Success, and executive leadership.
  • Proven ability to leverage AI, automation, agencies, and modern marketing technology to build scalable marketing capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication, analytical, and business acumen.
  • Experience in eCommerce technology, product customization, manufacturing software, or adjacent B2B commerce markets is preferred.
  • Hands-on proficiency with WordPress for website management, HubSpot (or a comparable marketing automation/CRM platform) for campaign execution and lead management, Shopify or similar eCommerce platforms, and design tools (e.g. Canva, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite)

Why Join VU Custom

  • Build the commercial marketing capability of a growing SaaS company alongside the CEO.

  • Work in a lean, high-impact environment where strong ideas quickly become action.
  • Join a private equity-backed company focused on accelerating recurring growth through innovation.
