Job Description

Position Information

The Medical Claims Clerk will process OHIP, RAMQ, RSMO, reciprocal, and uninsured medical claims on behalf of Partners (physicians) of The University of Ottawa Medical Associates (UMA). Core duties will include processing fee-for-service claims, associated claim submissions and corresponding with physicians and their staff.

Please note that this is a University of Ottawa Medical Associates position. The successful candidate to this vacancy will be an employee of the University of Ottawa Medical Associates and not The Ottawa Hospital.

Rotation/Shifts

Days, 8 hour shifts.

Responsibilities

(includes but not limited to):

  • The Medical Claims Clerk will process OHIP, RAMQ, reciprocal, and uninsured medical claims on behalf of Partners (physicians) of UMA;
  • Using EPIC software to process claims, both manual entry and reviewing electronic submitted claims;
  • Checking dropped charges to ensure accuracy and completeness before electronic submission;
  • Correcting claim errors and resubmitting claims;
  • Submitting RSMO claims via their portal;
  • Completing relevant paperwork, i.e. manual claim reviews;
  • Ensuring claims are submitted by the monthly OHIP submission deadline;
  • Maintain professional relations with Partners and Administrative Staff and answer questions and address concerns via mail, email, and telephone in a timely manner.

Basic Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Medical Office Assistant, is preferred, or equivalent work experience;
  • 2-3 years' relevant experience;
  • Certificate in medical terminology from a recognized educational institution is preferred;
  • Knowledge of OHIP Schedule of Benefits, RAMQ, Reciprocal, and Third Party billing;
  • Solid computer skills with email applications, MS Office (Word, Excel \& PowerPoint), and Adobe;
  • Knowledge and experience using EPIC, preference will be given to candidates who have "superuser" experience;
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member;
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent organization, prioritisation, and time-management skills;
  • Initiative, dedication, and attention to detail;
  • Able to handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using EPIC;
  • Proficiency in speaking and comprehending both English and French (Level B\+) is an asset.
