OVERVIEW

Assignment

The contract Network Administrator 2 position will support the Network Administration (JNDN) organization, within the Infrastructure Services (JND) org at the Headquarters in Portland, OR, Ross Campus, or field location. This position will provide support for networking connectivity in an Internet/intranet environment. The position supports high performing infrastructure on various network components such as cable plants, patch panels, routers, and switches by installing, configuring, and troubleshooting using provided tools.

The group works closely with client support, field support, and helpdesk teams in troubleshooting network related issues.

ASSIGNMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Note: All official drafts, documents and recommendations, as listed below, must be reviewed, finalized and approved / accepted by appropriate manager or other federal personnel with the authority to do so.

  • Configure and maintain network patch panels and perform cable management.
  • Resolve PC, data center, and network connectivity problems.
  • Test cables, monitor network health (frame errors, collisions), and identify setting problems with speed, duplex, or protocol mismatches.
  • Use the graphical or command line management interface to modify configurations such as IP routes and VLANs. In addition, track device performance, errors, and traffic.
  • Provide input in creation and maintenance of network maps and data spreadsheets using Visio and Excel.
  • Communicate with clients and team concerning solutions pertaining to network performance or maintenance and facilitating problem resolution.
  • Serve as network administrator includes facilitating: installing, configuring, upgrading, and troubleshooting SDN/ACI, LAN and WAN components such as routers, hubs, switches, monitors, and wifi components.
  • Draft and troubleshoot network maps and monitor network problems in connectivity failures with the HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, FTP, SSL, ICMP, VOIP, OSPF, BGP, and other protocols.
  • Enter, track, respond, and update incidents, changes, and tasks in the enterprise work tracking systems.
  • This position will include support of operations and maintenance (O\&M), as well as 24x7 production support on a rotational basis. Provide on-call and backup support for existing systems and functions. Location for on-call and backup support may be at facilities or off-site.
  • Identify the need to upgrade or enhance network component capabilities in response to network problems and deficiencies, e.g., degradation of service.
  • Interact with external vendors, contractors, and other utilities on product information, escorting, and cable installations.
  • Draft “How To” documents and desk procedures for trouble-shooting and operational duties related to network administration. Propose changes / updates when necessary.
  • Mark documents and maintain filing system(s), files, emails, and records in accordance with compliance requirements. Share and disperse documents only to appropriate personnel (those with a Lawful Government Purpose (LGP) to know). Mark and maintain all official records in accordance with the Information Security (INFOSEC) and Information Governance \& Lifecycle Management (IGLM) standards and procedures. Validate official records are accurately maintained for auditing purposes.

REQUIREMENTS

Education \& Corresponding Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in network administration, computer technology, information technology (or closely related field) is preferred.
  • 3 years of experience is required with an applicable bachelor’s degree.
  • 5 years of experience is required without a degree or applicable degree.
  • Experience should be in the computer technology or related technical field.

Required Technical Skills \& Experience (required on matrix)

  • 3 years of experience in IP networks supporting a large client pool environment.
  • 1 year of experience with Cisco products and IOS.
