WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
This position provides Occupational Therapy services to a variety of orthopaedic, cardiopulmonary, neurological and geriatric patients within the emergency department, inpatient acute medical unit, surgical inpatient unit and the continuing care setting.
The Occupational Therapist develops and implements a plan of intervention for inpatients in collaboration with the health care team. They will provide expert occupational therapy assessment and treatment recommendations for patients in the clinical units.
WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:
- Baccalaureate or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
- Demonstrated commitment to and involvement with own profession by being a member of either the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy and/or Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists is preferred
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
- Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team, as well as independently
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and critical thinking skills with an emphasis on conflict resolution
- Excellent time management, and prioritization skills as it relates to patient care
- Keen interest in using a goal orientated and patient-centered approach to patient care
- Computer skills to support the utilization of statistic programs and the Cerner Electronic Patient Record.
- Physical ability to carry out the essential duties of the position
- Ability to regularly attend work in accordance with the Attendance Support Program
- Acceptable performance record that is aligned with STEGH values and Code of Conduct
WHAT WE PREFER YOU TO HAVE:
- One (1) to two (2) years of current acute care hospital experience in providing occupational therapy for surgical, medical, complex continuing care and geriatric patients
HOURS:
The successful candidate must be available to work on all tours applicable to the department. In addition, this position must be flexible to occasional changes in hours when required to meet the operational needs of the department and be able to commit to the non-availability standards outlined in the Collective Agreement.
