The Role

We are seeking a

strategic, analytical, and people-focused Business Unit Manager

who can:

  • Interpret complex data,
  • Drive strategic direction,
  • Enable and guide managers to execute effectively.

You will be responsible for

optimising business performance, strengthening management capability, and ensuring operational excellence across the unit

.

Key Objectives of the Role

  • Provide

strategic leadership

  • Build and develop a

high-performing management structure

  • Identify and implement

process improvements and scalable solutions

  • Ensure alignment with

business goals, compliance standards, and client experience expectations

Key Responsibilities:

1\. Strategic Leadership \& Decision-Making

  • Translate business goals into actionable strategies for the department
  • Analyse performance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities
  • Make informed, high-impact decisions to improve outcomes
  • Drive long-term planning and sustainable growth within the business unit

2\. Team Leadership \& Management Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop

managers

  • Build leadership capability within the management team
  • Foster a culture of

accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement

  • Support managers in solving complex operational and people-related challenges

3\. Performance \& Operational Oversight

  • Oversee departmental performance through

KPIs, reporting, and analytics

  • Ensure alignment between strategy and execution across teams
  • Monitor productivity, efficiency, and quality metrics
  • Guide managers in achieving targets through structured performance management

4\. Data Analysis \& Insight Generation

  • Leverage data to provide

clear, actionable insights

  • Identify inefficiencies and recommend optimisation strategies
  • Use statistical and analytical approaches to support decision-making

5\. Process Optimisation \& Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate existing processes and implement improvements
  • Drive automation, efficiency, and scalability initiatives
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration to embed sustainable changes
  • Ensure best practices across all operational areas

6\. Risk, Compliance \& Governance

  • Ensure adherence to regulatory and internal compliance standards
  • Identify and mitigate operational and strategic risks
  • Maintain strong governance and reporting structures

Qualifications \& Experience

We are open to candidates from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, provided they demonstrate strong intellectual and leadership capability.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Honours advantageous) in:
  • Business / Commerce / Finance
  • Mathematics / Statistics
  • Engineering
  • Data Science / Computer Science / AI
  • Or other analytically rigorous fields
  • Professional qualifications (advantageous):
  • CA(SA), CIMA, or equivalent

Experience

  • Proven experience in:
  • Managing

managers or multi-layered teams

  • Strategic or operational leadership roles
  • Data-driven environments
