Position Overview
ESPN's Communications Department is seeking a talented and versatile Staff Photographer with supplemental video experience to join our ESPN Images team working from our campus in Bristol, Connecticut. The ideal candidate is a visual storyteller who excels across a diverse range of photographic disciplines. In this role, you will be responsible for producing compelling visual content that supports ESPN's communications department. The ideal candidate brings technical mastery in multimedia content production, a strong creative eye, and the flexibility to thrive in both a controlled studio environment and dynamic live-event settings.
Key Responsibilities
Studio, Portrait \& Campus Photography
- Execute high-quality photography assignments for talent and executive headshots, campus shows and events.
- Set up, operate, and maintain professional lighting equipment, backdrops, and camera systems in the ESPN Images studio.
- Work in our live television set environments on campus.
- Deliver imagery in real time via FTP and work within our organized digital asset library.
- Post image processing, captioning and file management.
- Work with our communications team to support ESPN Images assignments, asset management and creative content ideas.
Sports \& Live Event Coverage
- Intermittent travel to sporting events to capture ESPN shows, athlete portraits for production, sales and marketing activations, behind-the-scenes content and live sports action coverage.
- Work in fast-paced, high-pressure environments while consistently producing broadcast- and publication-quality images.
- Expertise in IPTC captioning and real time file delivery via FTP.
- Coordinate with communications, Images and social media teams to ensure rapid image turnaround for time-sensitive publication needs.
Video Production Support
- Assist with communications video production shoots, including camera operation, content creation, lighting setup, and on-set photography.
- Collaborate with communications videographers on multi-format content creation.
- Contribute to ESPN's short-form video and social content pipeline as needed.
General Responsibilities
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in multimedia content creation.
- Understanding and integration of AI technology to assist in content workflow and production efficiency.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Communications leadership team.
- Assisting with organization, editing and captioning of photoshoots and photo backlogs.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Photography, Visual Communications, Journalism, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
- Can show a body of work that demonstrates experience in both studio and live-event settings.
- Expert experience with professional DSLR/mirrorless camera systems (Sony preferred).
- Experience in Adobe Photoshop and Photomechanic; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong understanding of studio lighting techniques, including strobe, continuous, and natural light setups.
- Ability to travel with occasional irregular hours, evenings, and weekends as required by event schedules.
- Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; experience working with on-air talent or public figures is a plus.
Preferred
- Previous experience in a broadcast media, sports team, or entertainment photography environment.
- Working knowledge of video production workflows and camera operation.
- Familiarity with digital asset management (DAM) systems and metadata best practices.
The hiring range for this position in Connecticut is $79,400\.00 to $106,500\.00 per year based on a 40 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
