Platform Engineer

Position Description

Design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performing infrastructure platforms to ensure system reliability, availability, and disaster recovery, supporting business-critical applications and services.

Key Accountabilities

• Provide recommendations for infrastructure and server hardware specifications during procurement.
• Participate in evaluation and selection of servers, storage, and infrastructure solutions.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools using approved IT automation platforms.
• Monitor system performance, availability, and security, providing actionable insights.
• Oversee hardware delivery processes, including inventory control and installation readiness.

Key Activities

Infrastructure \& Platform Management

• Provision and manage infrastructure components including servers, storage, networking, and cloud environments.
• Understand data center requirements for hosting infrastructure and ensure proper deployment readiness.
• Gather and analyze business requirements to define optimal infrastructure specifications and configurations.

Installation \& Configuration

• Develop and execute installation and configuration plans for servers and platform components.
• Perform OS installation, patching, and software configuration aligned with best practices.
• Execute and validate installation checklists and acceptance testing.

Monitoring \& Performance Optimization

• Monitor infrastructure performance and ensure availability, reliability, and capacity planning.
• Generate and analyze performance reports to recommend upgrades or improvements.
• Perform performance tuning and optimization of platform components.

Security \& Compliance

• Ensure compliance with security standards, policies, and audit requirements.
• Implement and support access control, system hardening, and vulnerability management.
• Participate in data center and infrastructure security initiatives.

Backup \& Disaster Recovery

• Implement and maintain data backup solutions and disaster recovery processes.
• Ensure data integrity, backup validation, and recovery readiness.

Automation \& Efficiency

• Develop scripts (PowerShell, Bash, Python) to automate deployment, monitoring, and operational tasks.
• Improve system efficiency and reduce manual intervention through automation.

Operations \& Support

• Provide ongoing support for infrastructure systems and resolve incidents.
• Participate in root cause analysis and preventive action implementation.

Documentation \& Reporting

• Maintain accurate documentation of infrastructure configurations and changes.
• Prepare reports on system performance, incidents, and capacity utilization.
• Ensure proper documentation for change management and audit compliance.

Technical Skills

• Experience with Windows/Linux Server Administration
• Knowledge of virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V)
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS preferred)
• Experience in storage systems and backup solutions
• Proficiency in automation and scripting (PowerShell, Python, Bash)
• Understanding of networking fundamentals
• Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., SCOM, SolarWinds, etc.)
• Knowledge of disaster recovery and high availability concepts

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field

Work Experience

Minimum 2–4 years of experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, or system administration
