Principal Design System Designer

This is a high-impact, foundational design leadership role focused on defining the visual and interaction systems that will power next-generation digital health experiences. You will shape the design system that enables fast, consistent, and scalable product development across web and mobile platforms. Operating at the intersection of design, engineering, and AI, you will establish the architectural and visual language that guides how products are built and experienced at scale. This role requires both strategic vision and hands-on execution in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. You will collaborate closely with product and engineering leaders to drive system adoption and ensure design excellence across all touchpoints. Your work will directly influence the speed, quality, and accessibility of products used to improve real-world health outcomes.

Accountabilities

• Define and evolve the end-to-end design system strategy, including visual language, interaction patterns, and component architecture
• Build scalable, reusable design foundations that support web, iOS, and Android platforms
• Establish governance models, contribution workflows, documentation standards, and version control processes for system scalability
• Drive adoption of the design system across product and engineering teams, ensuring consistent usage and alignment
• Partner with engineering to bridge design and code, enabling efficient handoff and system implementation
• Leverage AI-enabled workflows and modern tooling to streamline design operations and system automation
• Maintain a high bar for visual craft, accessibility, and inclusive design across all system components
• Define metrics and measure the impact of the design system on product quality, velocity, and user experience
• Collaborate cross-functionally to balance speed, scalability, and architectural integrity in design decisions
• Lead the creation of new design patterns and interaction models that support future product expansion
• Support rapid iteration while ensuring long-term system coherence and scalability

Requirements

• 8-10 years of experience in product or system design, including leadership on large-scale design systems
• Proven experience building a design system from 0-1 or leading a major system overhaul in a high-growth tech environment
• Strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual design craft and scalable systems thinking
• Experience designing across multiple platforms including web, iOS, and Android
• Deep understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design principles
• Strong technical fluency with front-end constraints, design-to-code workflows, and modern design tools
• Experience collaborating closely with engineering teams to operationalize design systems at scale
• Familiarity with AI-driven design workflows, automation tools, or design ops enhancements is a strong plus
• Strong ability to navigate ambiguity, prioritize effectively, and make fast architectural trade-offs
• Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders
• Proven ability to drive adoption and organizational alignment around shared design standards
