POSITION: Production and Company Manager - Pittsburgh Playhouse
DEPARTMENT: Playhouse
REPORTS TO: Managing Director of Production and Operations
WORK SCHEDULE: Fully on campus
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Pittsburgh Playhouse Production and Company Manager serves a dual leadership role overseeing both the operational execution of theatre productions and the day-to-day management of company personnel, logistics, and artist services. This position reports to the Playhouse Managing Director of Production and Operations and in collaboration with the Playhouse production team, Conservatory of Performing Arts Artistic Directors, COPA faculty, events teams, external vendors, and production creatives and design teams. This position acts as the central coordinator between artistic, educational, technical, administrative, and front-of-house departments to ensure productions are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget while supporting a positive and professional company culture.
The ideal candidate is a highly experienced professional with exceptional organizational, collaborative, problem-solving, interpersonal, and adaptable skills, and a proven ability to thrive in fast-paced live entertainment, theatrical, and event production environments.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Theatre, Arts Administration, Stage Management, Production Management, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5\+ years of professional theatre production and/or company management experience.
- Strong knowledge of theatrical production processes and backstage operations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, budgeting, and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and extended production hours as required.
- Experience with union environments (AEA, IATSE, SDC, etc.).
- Understanding of Point Park University policies and
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office 365
- Ability to work collaboratively, think critically, problem solve, and work independently.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Planning \& Coordination
- Create and maintain master production calendars and schedules.
- Coordinate production meetings and distribute meeting notes/action items.
- Serve as primary liaison between directors and choreographers, designers, technical staff, stage management, faculty, artistic directors, and administration.
- Oversee production timelines from pre-production through strike.
- Track deliverables for scenic, lighting, costume, sound, props, and technology including projection departments.
Budget \& Resource Management
- Develop and monitor production budgets in collaboration with administration.
- Track expenditures, purchase orders, rentals, and vendor contracts.
- Negotiate pricing and coordinate rentals, transportation, and production services.
- Ensure productions remain within approved projected budgets.
Technical \& Operational Oversight
- Coordinate load-ins, technical rehearsals, performances, and strikes.
- Supervise production logistics including rehearsal space scheduling and equipment allocation.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, union regulations, and venue policies.
Communication \& Documentation
- Maintain production paperwork, contact lists, schedules, and reports.
- Distribute rehearsal and performance schedules to all departments.
- Communicate schedule changes and production updates promptly.
Artist \& Staff Coordination
- Work in collaboration with the Playhouse Business Operations and Community Engagement Manager to secure contracts, onboarding, housing, travel, and hospitality for guest artists and company members.
- Serve as primary point of contact for company needs and concerns.
- Coordinate auditions, callbacks, and casting logistics in collaboration with the Conservatory of Performing Arts faculty and staff.
- Maintain personnel records and emergency contact information.
Company Culture \& Wellness

- Assist with policy implementation and company handbook enforcement.

DUTIES:
- Develop, monitor, and enforce production schedules while supervising all production areas to ensure overall qualitative success. (40%)
- Collaborate with members of the university to assure timelines and needs are met including Playhouse team, President's office, University and community events, COPA Artistic Directors, external rentals, and presenting productions. (20%)
- Supervise production and company teams, including faculty mentors and students, to ensure all direct reports are clear on individual performance goals and expectations. (20%)
- Develop and implement informed operation plans for technical systems utilizing resources to solve facility and production needs. (10%)
- Effectively monitor all Pittsburgh Playhouse production budgets and expenditures and advise on overall feasibility of production (10%)
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office setting.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Job may require lifting light weight objects (1-10 lbs) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1-10 lbs).
- Frequent computer use at workstation, up to eight hours per day.
- Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
- Mobility within the office. Ability to walk, sit, stand and climb stairs. Ability to use hands and fingers, to handle office equipment, records and files. Occasionally required to reach with arms and hands, and to stoop, kneel or crouch. Vision abilities required by this job include the ability to read and discern written errors on paper and electronic documents. Ability to talk and hear. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
