Remote ELA Support InstructorPosition Overview

We are seeking a patient, experienced, and dependable Remote English Language Arts (ELA) Support Instructor to provide individualized academic support to a student in the early years of college.

The instructor will help the student strengthen their reading, writing, communication, organization, and independent learning skills. Support will include grammar instruction, paper review and editing, gathering and organizing details, developing ideas, understanding assignments, and completing written work.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with college students or young adults with disabilities and will be able to adapt instruction to the student’s individual learning style and support needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one ELA instruction and academic support through remote sessions.
• Help the student understand assignment instructions, grading criteria, and course expectations.
• Support brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, and editing written assignments.
• Teach and reinforce grammar, punctuation, spelling, sentence structure, and proper word usage.
• Help the student gather relevant details, examples, evidence, and research for assignments.
• Assist with organizing ideas into clear paragraphs, essays, reports, and other academic formats.
• Review papers for clarity, structure, organization, grammar, and completeness while helping the student develop their own writing skills.
• Support reading comprehension, note-taking, summarizing, and identifying key information.
• Teach strategies for planning assignments, managing deadlines, and completing work independently.
• Break complex assignments into smaller, manageable steps.
• Provide clear, respectful, and encouraging feedback.
• Communicate with the student and designated family member, caregiver, or support coordinator regarding progress, challenges, and recommended strategies, as appropriate.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Perform other related academic-support duties based on the student’s needs.

Required Qualifications

• Experience providing ELA, writing, tutoring, academic coaching, or learning-support services.
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
• Strong knowledge of grammar, academic writing, editing, reading comprehension, and written communication.
• Ability to explain concepts in multiple ways and adapt instruction to different learning needs.
• Ability to provide support without completing assignments on the student’s behalf.
• Strong communication, organization, patience, and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable using video-conferencing platforms, shared documents, email, and other online learning tools.

Pay: $45\.00 - $50\.00 per hour

Work Location: Remote
