Research Scientist

to support the mission of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in

Bethesda, MD

.

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

Duties Include:

• Plan, design, and execute research experiments within the laboratory’s broader research program.
• Independently lead special and high-priority research projects, including the development of novel methods and treatments.
• Develop and perform analytical assays and bio-separation methods to support research, clinical trial materials assessment, and vaccine development.
• Design and apply advanced analytical techniques, including HPLC, electrophoretic methods, capillary-based methods, and chromatographic analysis of proteins and glycoproteins.
• Support laboratory staff and train users in experimental design, instrumentation, data acquisition, data analysis, and figure preparation.
• Evaluate, analyze, and interpret research data to generate evidence-based conclusions and advance scientific findings.
• Maintain detailed research documentation, including electronic laboratory notebooks and project records, while ensuring data quality.
• Communicate findings through reports, presentations, manuscripts, and participation in internal and external scientific forums.

Certifications \& Licenses

• Ph.D. in a scientific field.
• Three to five (3\+, 5\+) years of specialized experience plus a Master’s degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.
• Five to eight (5\+, 8\+) years of specialized experience plus a BA/BS degree is equivalent to a Ph.D

Skills

• Proficiency in HPLC and chromatography, including reverse-phase, normal-phase, ion-exchange, and size-exclusion methods
• Experience with protein and glycoprotein analysis, including assessment of identity, purity, and post-translational modifications
• Strong background in analytical assay development and validation
• Hands-on experience with data acquisition systems and laboratory instrumentation software
• Ability to perform scientific data analysis and interpret complex datasets

Preferred

• Experience with electrophoretic techniques, including gel and capillary electrophoresis
• Familiarity with capillary-based analytical methods
• Experience using electronic laboratory notebook systems
• Knowledge of quality control and GMP-related practices
• Familiarity with biopharmaceutical, vaccine, monoclonal antibody (mAb), or mRNA/LNP research and development
