About Us
A full-time Research Technician B position is available in the Petsakou laboratory at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Our laboratory studies the crosstalk between the nervous system and the gut in pathological conditions such as inflammatory bowel diseases, tumorigenesis and cancer-induced anorexia. The research technician will assist in laboratory experiments,
Drosophila
stock maintenance and general laboratory organization.
We use
Drosophila
genetics, immunocytochemistry, molecular biology and imaging techniques to study the brain-gut axis.
The project will involve working with
Drosophila,
maintaining stock lines and making crosses. Applicants must be comfortable working with
Drosophila.
Additional knowledge of molecular and biochemical techniques, such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, qPCR, immunocytochemistry and western blotting, is preferred. Experience in cell cultures and microscopy is a plus.
The research technician will organize the lab and will assist in experiments.
Position Responsibilities
- Perform a moderate number of simple or moderate technical procedures;
+ Maintaining drosophila stocks, collecting vigins and making crosses;
+ QPCR
+ immunocytochemistry;

+ fly feeding experiments

- Require occasional guidance;
- Occasionally be responsible for ordering routine supplies;
- Rarely modify technical procedures;
- Rarely train other lab members;
- Rarely guide other lab members;
- A simple / limited understanding of scientific literature and the research goals and rationale is required;
- Occasionally analyze data;
- Rarely interpret data;
- Rarely make written contributions to papers and grant proposals.*
Qualifications
- B.A. or B.S in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field
- Previous lab bench work experience is preferred (0-2 years of experience in molecular biology techniques)
- Knowledge of Drosophila genetics is preferred (0-2 years experience in Drosophila genetics)
- Must be familiar with basic procedures in handling chemicals and standard lab equipment
- Good organizational and communication skills are essential
- Have basic molecular biology and Drosophila knowledge.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rates for this are listed below. This rate is based on the 1199 bargaining unit contract.
