Job Description
Scrum Master / Agile Delivery Lead
NOTE: Must be a US Citizen and reside in the US. We are NOT accepting recruiter or contractor referrals.
About Intterra
Intterra builds mission-critical software for public safety agencies, emergency management organizations, and first responders. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Scrum Master / Agile Delivery Lead to help mature our agile development process, improve execution discipline, and coach our engineering teams.
Role Overview
This is not a passive scrum role. We need a hands-on leader who can facilitate our scrum process, track and manage development work, remove blockers, and help our teams improve how they plan, build, and deliver software.
The right candidate will be a
player-coach
— someone who can both lead the agile process and actively help the team do the work better. This person should be comfortable jumping into the details, helping break down work, improving backlog quality, clarifying priorities, identifying delivery risks, and coaching team members in real time.
We are looking for someone who has helped smaller or growing development teams mature. The ideal candidate understands what it takes to move from informal, founder-led, or ad hoc development practices into a more disciplined, scalable, and predictable delivery model.
This role requires someone who can bring structure without bureaucracy, accountability without micromanagement, and coaching without corporate agile theater.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead sprint planning, daily standups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and release planning.
- Serve as a hands-on player-coach for engineering, product, and QA teams.
- Help teams break down work into clear, actionable user stories, tasks, acceptance criteria, and sprint commitments.
- Coach the team on agile best practices, estimation, prioritization, backlog hygiene, and continuous improvement.
- Track sprint progress, team capacity, blockers, dependencies, and delivery risks.
- Partner with engineering and product leadership to improve planning, execution, predictability, and accountability.
- Help mature Intterra’s agile operating model as our development organization scales.
- Create visibility into backlog health, sprint commitments, velocity, delivery timelines, and team performance.
- Support a culture of ownership, transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Required Experience
- 5\+ years of experience as a Scrum Master, Agile Coach, Agile Delivery Lead, Technical Project Manager, or similar role.
- Prior experience helping smaller or growing software development teams mature their agile practices.
- Experience working in a scaling software development organization.
- Demonstrated ability to operate as a hands-on player-coach, not just a meeting facilitator.
- Strong understanding of scrum, agile principles, backlog management, sprint planning, estimation, retrospectives, and release planning.
- Proven ability to coach and mentor engineering teams while also managing the details of execution.
- Experience working closely with product, engineering, QA, DevOps, and customer-facing teams.
- Strong facilitation, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to bring process discipline to a fast-moving environment without slowing the team down.
Preferred Experience
- Agile certifications such as CSM, PSM, SAFe, or PMI-ACP.
- Experience with Jira, Azure DevOps and similar tools.
- Experience in SaaS, public safety, govtech, enterprise software, or mission-critical technology.
- Experience helping teams move from informal processes to mature agile delivery practices.
- Experience supporting multiple teams, cross-functional releases, or complex technical roadmaps.
Ideal Candidate
You are part coach, part operator, part process leader, and part delivery problem-solver. You know agile is not about running meetings — it is about helping teams deliver better software with clarity, focus, and discipline.
You have worked with smaller teams that needed to mature, scale, and build better delivery habits. You know how to meet a team where it is, improve how it works, and raise the standard without creating unnecessary friction.
You are hands-on. You are willing to dig into tickets, clarify scope, identify gaps, chase blockers, improve planning, and help the team get better every sprint.
At Intterra, our software supports public safety professionals and the communities they serve. Delivery discipline matters. This role will help us move faster, execute better, and continue earning the trust of our customers.
