We re building an AI-first engineering organization and looking for a Principal AI Engineer to help shape how we design, build, and ship intelligent software. You ll join small, cross-functional product teams made up of software engineers, research scientists, and product managers, and you ll be hands-on from architecture through production code.

This is a high-impact role for someone who loves solving complex problems, cares about clean systems, and is excited to work in an environment where AI tooling is part of the daily workflow.

What You Ll Do

• Define and influence technical direction for AI-powered applications and platforms.
• Design, build, and deploy scalable backend services and distributed systems in Python.
• Work closely with frontend engineers using modern JavaScript frameworks (Vue preferred; React or Angular also fine).
• Own infrastructure and deployment using Terraform, GitLab, and cloud platforms (AWS and/or GCP).
• Partner with product, research, and engineering leaders to turn ideas into reliable, production-grade solutions.
• Help teams adopt AI-assisted development practices and tools such as Claude, Codex, or GitHub Copilot.
• Mentor other engineers and raise the bar for code quality, architecture, and delivery.

What You Bring

• 12\+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development.
• Expert-level Python skills and a solid understanding of APIs, microservices, and cloud-native design.
• Real-world experience with modern frontend stacks (Vue, React, or Angular).
• Hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
• Strong cloud background in AWS and/or GCP, including CI/CD, GitLab, and deployment automation.
• Comfortable working in an AI-first environment and using AI coding assistants as part of your daily workflow.
• Proven ability to lead technical initiatives, influence architecture, and collaborate across teams.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex systems clearly.

Bonus points if you have

• Experience building or scaling AI/ML-enabled applications or platforms.
• Background in distributed systems, data platforms, or large-scale enterprise systems.
• A track record of mentoring senior engineers and shaping engineering culture.
• Familiarity with AI governance, security, or ethical AI practices.
